We won’t have a new season of Doctor Who until later this year, but we do have a new mini-episode. The annual Script To Screen contest winners sketch has been released. The contest invites school aged children across the United Kingdom to write their own short script for CBBC, a children’s channel. The winners were chosen and Matt Smith and Karen Gillan appeared as The Doctor and Amy. Showrunner and head writer Steven Moffat along with BBC Learning executive Katy Jones chose the winning script entitled Good as Gold.
And from a Doctor Who min-episode featuring the Olympics to news of the Olympics featuring Doctor Who. The current star, Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith, ran the first leg of the Olympic torch relay earlier today. There was a crowd of people on hand to see Smith carry the torch. Matt Smith commented on the crowd. “It’s a great privilege to be involved. I can’t quite believe people have actually turned up, I thought I would be just be carrying it around, waving to the ducks.” You may remember David Tennant, the Tenth Doctor, carried the torch in the episode Fear Her. If you’re worried about the space/time continuum, you have to remember what The Doctor says- Time can be rewritten.
Doctor Who will return in the fall for the seventh all leading up to the departure of Amy and Rory Pond and a new companion introduction this Christmas.
