Diamond Comics Top Comics for 2013

Diamond Comics has announced it’s top selling comics for 2013.  Most of the top 10 are made up of #1s, which is no surprise given the market.  Marvel has to be happy with their Marvel Now! initiative, as the sale prove that it was a huge success.  All-New Marvel Now! being a success is a whole different story. Most of the upcoming Marvel titles feature lesser known characters or teams, including some that haven’t sold well for the House of Ideas.  The often complained about $3.99 price point doesn’t seem to be affecting fans as much as they say it does, as 9 of the top 10 book had the $3.99 or $4.99 price point (sans The Walking Dead).  Superman fans will be happy to see a Superman book back near the top of the year, but it’s strange to see any issues of Batman in this list.  It’s continuously in the top 10 each month, but it’s apparently not selling as much as it seems.  Not to say that Batman isn’t selling well, just that it’s not dominating as much as it seems.  2014 is going to be a big year for Image, with series like Black Science and Sex Criminals releasing trades, will they dominate the trade market even more? I think so.  I also expect to see them inching more into the top 10 for single issues as well.  As more A-list creators release more high profile books, I expect readers to start picking up more Image books.  Dark Horse has a steep hill to climb, as 2014 will be the last year with the Star Wars license.  I expect them to announce a Legend of Zelda book (be it ongoing or miniseries), as it’s a big property that could attract a big following.
