DC Launching A New Batman Comic Based On The 1960s TV Show

batman bannerHoly Toys and Comics, Batman! We saw a little of what Warner Bros. and company have in plan for their new line of Batman toys and figures based on the classic 1966 series, but toys aren’t the only things we’re getting. It was announced recently that Warner Bros. Consumer Products and DC will launch a digital-first comic series starring Adam West, Burt Ward, and all the villainous rogues that made up the classic show. Writer Jeff Parker and artist Jonathan Case will bring West and Ward back to the Batman universe this fall. You can check out some of Case‘s art that debuted along with the announcement. Michael Allred‘s Batusi cover, which couldn’t be used for DC‘s SOLO because of legal issues, will luckily see the light of day as the first issue’s cover. Batman ’66 will be collected in print form later like most of DC‘s other digital-first series.

DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson talked about the new book:

The juxtaposition of offering a retro Batman ’66 comic as a current and modern digital first title is fun. DC Entertainment is the most prolific producer of digital first comics and, as we work to create new and compelling content, this is a great way to also preserve the legacy of our characters. It’s exciting to roll out the new Batman ’66 comic as part of this bigger initiative with our Warner Bros Consumer Product partners.

It’s interesting that she says the comics are part of a “bigger initiative” for Warner Bros. Consumer Products. With the legal dispute between Warner Bros. and Fox settled and new merchandise rolling out most of this year, we could be closer than ever to the long awaited DVD release of the series. What do you think about the new title?  Do you hope this means we’re closer to the video release of the full series?
