Since 2012, DC have been publishing a weekly series of Batman stories set outside of continuity called Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight through the DC Comics app. The series featured an impressive amount of top comic book talent writing an anthology-style collection of stories for readers of all ages. With it being so well received and the Man of Steel movie coming out, DC have decided it’s time for Superman to get his turn.
April 29th will see the release of the first entry in the Adventures of Superman. The writers for the debut will be Orson Scott Card and Aaron Johnston with Chris Sprouse on art. That team will continue on into week 2, but week 3 will feature Jeff Parker and Chris Samnee telling the story of Superman’s first run-in with Lex Luthor. A peek at Samnee’s art was revealed along with the announcement on IGN.
DC will also make the stories available through print like their other digital first offerings. The stories will be collected in groups of three. DC has quite an impressive list of creators lined up for the series. You might recognize some of the names: Bruce Timm, Marv Wolfman, Marcus To, Stephen Segovia, Riley Rossmo, Michael Avon Oeming, Jeff Lemire, David Lapham, Andy Lanning, Max Landis, JT Krul, Matt Kindt, Justin Jordan, Marc Guggenheim, Christos N. Gage, Joshua Hale Fialkov, Nathan Edmoundson, Giuseppe Camuncoli, Mitch Breitweiser, Ed Benes, and Dan Abnett.
