Days Of Future Past News Roundup: 3D, Wolverine, And Richard Nixon
Today seems to be another Days of Future Past news day. Several more bits of info from director Bryan Singer has been revealed while he’s out and about promoting Jack the Giant Slayer. He’s told us how the First Class sequel will be shot and what new things we’ll be seeing. Hugh Jackman also commented on his role and how much we can expect to see of him.
In a press event for the upcoming Jack, Singer revealed to Cinemablend that he would be shooting Days of Future Past in 3D. Other than saying he’d be using some tricks from Jack the Giant Slayer and shooting in native stereo, Singer remained tight lipped on the film. He addressed why he’s playing it close to the chest for now:
There’s things that we’re going to do in this movie that haven’t been done in X-Men films before. Stuff involving [time travel], and stuff involving certain technology, and certain science fiction aspects that haven’t been used before in an X-Men film. We’d like to keep some of that a surprise. This movie will also deal with destiny, the choices we made, the people we were– how the people we were when we were young affects the world we have to live in in the future, and what if we could go back and change that.
In another chat with Collider, Singer revealed that this would be the biggest film he’s ever made. It will require shooting from April 15th until sometime in October in Montreal. He also confirmed reports that the film would take place in the 1970s and would include what may be a surprising role saying “Part of it takes place in the 1970s. And Richard Nixon’s in it, that’ll be an interesting casting choice…“
And the final piece of news in our X-Men roundup is Hugh Jackman telling us what he knows about the film. We know Jackman will be one of the many, many original X-cast reprising their roles in the First Class sequel which is part of what drew him in to returning. Jackman told The Hollywood Reporter how he learned about the film:
I first heard about it around October or November , literally finishing The Wolverine and dreaming about lasagna, and about three weeks before the end, they told me. There was no way I was not going to be part of that.
He also said he hasn’t seen a finished script, but has seen an eight page synopsis for the film. THR notes that Jackmans’ role will be “large.” As you remember, he had a memorable but brief cameo in First Class. With Days of Future Past shaping up to be a great replacement for X4, it’s not surprising to see larger roles for Wolverine and probably the original cast. What do you think about that? Should Wolverine share the spotlight with the other mutants?
