There has been quite a bit of banter and reporting in regards to the role of Drax the Destroyer in Marvel’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy adaptation. For some time, it was rumored that Game of Thrones alum Jason Momoa was all but confirmed for the role but after being unable to come to an agreement on money, those talks came to an end. Today, we’ve learned that former WWE Superstar Dave Bautista has landed the role of Drax.
Drax the Destroyer is a human that is resurrected as a green warrior who is hell-bent on doing away with Thanos, who is rumored to be the main villain in Guardians of the Galaxy. He has the capabilities of flight, super-strength and energy blasts. Bautista is the second actor confirmed for the film, joining Chris Pratt who will fill the role of Starlord. Still to be cast are Groot, Rocket Raccoon and Gamora.
Bautista’s name has been mentioned for the role before, along with Isaiah Mustafa and Patrick Wade. Bautista was last seen in The Man With the Iron Fists last year and will be starring opposite Vin Diesel in this year’s Riddick.
