Comic Book Quickies: Ryan Reynolds Talks Deadpool, Cumberbatch Talks Star Trek Fandom, And McAvoy On His Nightcrawler Mix-Up

cbqWe’ve put together a quick list of some interesting comic book movie related news for your reading and viewing pleasure. I’m going to pull off a hat-trick with three anticipated movie properties. We’ve got Ryan Reynolds commenting on the long gestating Deadpool movie, Benedict Cumberbatch talking about Star Trek and its crazy fans, and James McAvoy commenting on X-Men: Days of Future Past‘s groovy costumes as well as misspeaking on Alan Cumming coming back as Nightcrawler.

 Deadpool

Our first stop is a quick quote from Ryan Reynolds about the one comic book movie people actually want to see him in- Deadpool. While doing press for The Croods, HeyUGuys asked Reynolds if the movie will ever actually happen. They also asked Emma Stone about Spider-Man, but she just said she’s excited about it. Nothing to write home about there. The Deadpool question kicks in around the 4:35 mark.

I don’t know. It’s really up to the studio and the studios sort of reluctant to pull the trigger on such a hard rated R script. The guys that wrote it and the  producers said they don’t want to make it unless it’s that sort of…hard and raunchy.

Star Trek

Our next stop sees Benedict Cumberbatch talking with RedCarpetNewsTV about what drew him to Star Trek Into Darkness. The Sherlock actor doesn’t even broach the subject of who he is actually playing, but he does talk about his admiration for director JJ Abrams. He also talks about fandom in general and how he’s starting to come around on the whole idea.

Days of Future Past

Our final stop sees James McAvoy talking about his groovy costumes for Days of Future Past and Charles being in a dark place, with Empire Online. The actor mentions feeling bad about misstating that Alan Cumming was coming back to play Nightcrawler around the 1:20 mark if that’s the big moment you’re looking for. McAvoy really wanted Cumming to join up just so he could talk Macbeth with him, Patrick Stewart, and Ian McKellen. All four men have had impressive runs on the Shakespeare play.

So there you have it, three quick stops regarding some big movies (well, two movies and one everyone’s hoping eventually happens). So Ryan Reynolds didn’t shoot down Deadpool completely, it’s just trying to see which side gives in about the R rating first. Do you hope Deadpool eventually gets made? What did you think about Cumberbatch‘s fandom comments? Still mad at McAvoy for getting your Nightcrawler hopes up?
