Cobie Smulders In Talks For S.H.I.E.L.D. Show
Cobie Smulders burst onto the scene as Agent Maria Hill this past summer in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers. The How I Met Your Mother Actress brought the S.H.I.E.L.D. second in command to life, although her role was cut slightly if the deleted scenes are anything to go by. While out promoting her upcoming film, Safe Haven, the actress talked to I Am Rogue about reprising the role of Maria Hill on the big screen and possibly the small screen as well.
We know that Clark Gregg’s Agent Phil Coulson will make the leap from big screen to small screen if the Whedon directed S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot gets picked up this fall, but Smulders said she may be appearing on the show as well. According to her, she is in talks:
The commitments to [How I Met Your Mother] don’t affect it. And I can’t really say but there are definite talks about it.
In the unlikely event the show doesn’t get picked up, we can next see Maria Hill in 2014’s sequel to Captain America. The movie will take place shortly after The Avengers and feature a lot of the S.H.I.E.L.D. team. Joining Chris Evans will be Sam Jackson’s Nick Fury, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Smulders, and Anthony Mackie as the Falcon. They’re going to need a big team as they have to face off against Toby Jones as Armin Zola (though he may just be in flashbacks), Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier, and Frank Grillo as Crossbones. Smulders talks about the upcoming movie and how much she knows about it:
I don’t know the exact dates. I know it’s some time in March or June. I’ve seen parts of it, but yeah I don’t know much. This is Marvel! They don’t let you know anything. It’s very watermarked scripts, heavily watermarked. Yeah, they don’t let you know like the day of, but they are very secretive and I think they are still figuring stuff out.
If the S.H.I.E.L.D. show does get picked up, hopefully Smulders can appear in a recurring role. Maria Hill is a major player in the comics, and it would be nice to see her role expanding in the movies and TV show. At the least, we have her for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. What do you think? Do you hope Smulders pops up on the TV show from time to time?
