Clark Gregg Addresses VISION Rumors - Comic Book Therapy

Clark Gregg Addresses VISION Rumors

With The Avengers just taking the number 3 all-time spot from The Dark Knight, I’m going to assume you’ve seen the movie if you’re reading a comic book site. Clark Gregg touched on the internet rumors about his possible return as the Ultron created android known as The Vision. Vision became a member of The Avengers and fell in love with Scarlett Witch. He is one of the most popular Avengers, and fans have been wanting to see him on screen for some time.

Gregg talked with MTV about the persistent internet rumors that after Agent Phil Coulson was murdered at the hands of Loki he would be used to build The Vision.

Vision is cool, but I would hate to be any AI life form. If I got to come back, I would need to still be somebody who could wisecrack, because my favorite part of the job was that if anybody was going to tease anybody about their diva superhero outfit or whatever, it would be me.

The way Coulson died was essential to how the team assembled in the movie’s version of The Avengers. If Coulson was to return it would take away from the impact it had on the members. Gregg agrees.

I really love what Joss did with Agent Coulson in ‘The Avengers. It seems like an idea that was in the cards, not only from Joss but from Marvel, in that you needed to ground the movie in some real emotion and stakes. I loved playing that guy, and I’ll miss playing him, but I was glad to have that job.

Coulson is more than likely going to stay dead. Joe Quesada, Marvel CCO, has even been on record saying that to bring Coulson back as the Vision “doesn’t feel right.” This may not sit well with some fans, Coulson being a fan favorite and all, but it looks like it’s the truth. Now I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of a flashback or something similar in the first round of post-Avengers movies. His death may still be troubling to some of the team in their individual movies. Personally, I hope Gregg continues on with Marvel. He is a director, so maybe we can see more Marvel shorts with Gregg directing.
