Charlie Cox Is The Man Without Fear
Marvel was at the center of all the big news this past weekend with Edgar Wright ditching Ant-Man, a project that he’d be working on for the better part of a decade. It’s still unclear on the reasoning, but it seems that there were some creative differences on the project. The other big news came when Drew Goddard, the man who turned heads with his Cabin in the Woods film, left the anticipated Daredevil series that Marvel is working on with Netflix. It was announced that Steven S. DeKnight will take over show-runner duties. DeKnight, who is also a Buffy The Vampire Slayer veteran, was the man behind the acclaimed Spartacus series on Starz. The bit of news that fans have really been waiting for, however, is who would be playing the titular character. Wait no longer, sports fans.
THR has confirmed that Charlie Cox will play the role of Matt Murdock, the blind hero better known to many as Daredevil. Cox comes to us from the hit HBO series Boardwalk Empire. Others will know him from his starring role in Matthew Vaughn’s adaptation of Stardust. Cox has been a hot commodity over the past couple of year in regards to television pilots. He was set to star in several series that failed to be picked up by networks.
The Daredevil series is a 13-episode series that will lead off a new collection of show on Netflix. Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage will also be featured. This will all lead up to a Defenders mini-series that will also air on Netflix. Filming on Daredevil is set to commence filming in June. The rest of the cast should come together quickly.
UPDATE: Here’s the official release from Marvel, which confirms that the series will take place in modern day Hell’s Kitchen. Some sites are reporting that an official image of Cox in the iconic suit may find its way online before too long, so be sure to check back for that.
