REVIEW: MYSTIC 2
In this second issue we learn much more about the world of Hyperion and Aether the magical element that powers the world. Giselle is whisked into the rich and privileged world of an apprentice but still finds her orphan roots a source of teasing and disdain from the majority of her fellow student.
Through Genevieve, who has been thrown out after her palace outburst, we see the frustrations of the working class people who live in the shadow of the castle.
Wilson is a master at world building. It’s amazing how much history and story that she has fit into two issues! I really felt for Viv in this story. In all the hectic activity of the post apprentice ceremony she barely spares a thought for Viv. There isn’t a meanness to this, I suspect it has to do with Giselle’s natural ability to adapt. Especially after she learns that the world of Hyperion is in danger .
The art in this issue continues to impress me. Wonderful vibrant colors and an over all animated feel. I look forward to seeing how the story progreses.
