The Doctor Who season finale will air in just a few hours on BBC America. The Brits have already seen it, and besides Twitter, they’ve done a good job of keeping the story’s secrets. The episode did not lie. The biggest secret The Doctor has ever had is revealed and it will change the history of Doctor Who forever. I do not say that lightly. I’ve seen almost every episode that is still in existence and consider myself an amateur Whostorian as it were. The episode is the last we’ll see until the November 50th Anniversary spectacular.

The BBC announced the air date of the episode after the final credits rolled on The Name of The Doctor. The banner above gives the date as November 23, 2013 in case you couldn’t read the date the way the Brits write it. That’s the exact day the very first episode, An Unearthly Child, aired 50 years ago. We figured that may be the case, but it’s confirmed now. Because the interwebz did a good job of keeping the secrets even though some people got the episode on Blu-ray a few weeks early, the BBC unveiled a special behind the scenes video featuring David Tennant and Matt Smith talking about filming the special together. It’s nothing major, but it is a pretty fun video.

Now this is where things get tricky. The episode featured a huge, monumental, gigantic reveal that changes Doctor Who forever. I WILL NOT reveal it in this article, but I will give you links to a YouTube video with the reveal and a screengrab of the surprising development. Click at your own risk. I’d recommend that you wait until you watch it, but I know some people have to know right here and right now. The link to the YouTube video with the reveal is here (though it may be taken down soon, as most spoiler videos are). The picture can be found here. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. If you discuss it below, do try to keep it vague or veiled. What did you think of the episode? Are you ready for the 50th?

Last month, Amazon released 14 pilot shows and wanted to hear viewers feedback on deciding which pilot to move forward with.

Co-writer/executive producer of “Zombieland,” Rhett Reese, took to twitter to announce that “Zombieland” the series is officially dead. Well – through Amazon at least. Check out Reese’ tweets below:

Our Zombieland series will not be moving forward on Amazon.Sad for everyone involved.

— Rhett Reese (@RhettReese) May 17, 2013

I’ll never understand the vehement hate the pilot received from die-hard Zombieland fans. You guys successfully hated it out of existence.

— Rhett Reese (@RhettReese) May 17, 2013

Anyway, we did our best, and we’re very proud of our team.

— Rhett Reese (@RhettReese) May 17, 2013

“Zombieland” rated a 3.7 out of 5 stars based on over 5,000 reviews. However, the lowest-rated pilot, “Browers,” rated a 3.1 and the highest-rated, “Those Who Can’t,” grabbed a 4.4 stars.

Well, personally I’m officially bummed. I highly enjoyed the pilot and was wishing it the best. I hope Rhett Reese will look for other options for “Zombieland.” Maybe even start a KickStarter, since, well, that’s what everyone else is doing these days.

It seems like there are countless ‘what if’ stories when it comes to comic book movies and TV shows. When a new one pops up, its usually along the lines of a discarded script or an actor/actress passing on a role. This Walking Dead story falls in the latter category. At a special Q&Q following the Hero Complex Film Festival screening of The Mist, Frank Darabont and Thomas Jane fielded a few questions from the audience. Darabont, who developed, executive produced, and directed episodes of The Walking Dead, was answering a question when he went off in a slight tangent revealing Thomas Jane was pretty close to being Rick Grimes. We’ve heard a little about that possibility in the past, but I believe this is the first time the two men have been together to talk about it.

Darabont was asked about the similarities in tone between The Mist and The Walking Dead. He answered the question by talking about some of his other projects like The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile being similar situations. As he discussed how he went about making two seemingly similar things different, he revealed that The Mist and Walking Dead was almost very similar because Thomas Jane was his choice for the lead role on that project as well- Rick Grimes. Jane had helped bring the series to HBO‘s attention and told them he wanted to be a part of it. At that time he was working with HBO doing the series Hung. That was a problem, but Jane told the network he wanted to do both. As we know, HBO passed on Walking Dead because they thought it was ‘too graphic.’ Darabont does go on to praise Andrew Lincoln and how perfect he was for the part though. Jane jokes that if it would have worked out for him, he’d still have a job. You can check out the full video (which I highly recommend so you can see Jane goes full Al Bundy as he sits with a half buttoned shirt and his hand planted down his pants) by clicking here. Would you have liked Jane as Rick Grimes? What do you think the series would be like if he was involved?

Neil Gaiman‘s second episode of Doctor Who, Nightmare in Silver, aired last Saturday. The fan-favorite writer set out to make the Cybermen scary again and he certainly accomplished that and then some. Gaiman is a lifelong Doctor Who fan, but it was only last year that he finally got around to writing a story for the show. The Doctor’s Wife pleased even the toughest of critics, so when the news broke that he was taking another stab at writing an episode with the Cybermen, anticipation reached the upper atmosphere. Gaiman spoke about writing his second episode in a new video posted on the BBC Doctor Who site. You can check that out at the bottom.

The writer also touched on the chances of him returning for a third outing. The prolific scribe said that he would like to make a truly terrifying episode because he felt Nightmare in Silver didn’t quite deliver on that front. He wants to make children AND adults hide behind the sofa and wee themselves. Gaiman weighed the pros and cons of coming back:

On the one hand I don’t have time to write Doctor Who. It doesn’t pay very well, but you also have to rewrite it and rewrite it and rewrite it and never get paid, whereas in America you get paid for every rewrite… And there are lots of things including movies, novels, an HBO series that I should be doing…

On the other hand I haven’t done an episode set on Earth yet, and I haven’t created a new monster. And there’s part of me that feels… I haven’t scared anybody yet.

The BBC website used to mark out of ten how scary an episode would be [Fear Factor]. The Doctor’s Wife was probably only a 2, maybe a 3. The Cybermen has a few little scary bits but it’s running at about a 5 or 6. I’d love to a 9. I’d love to do something that sends adults behind the sofa too and makes them wee. Pools of wee.

As an added bonus, here’s Warwick Davis being absolutely charming as he talks about his role in the newest episode. What do you think? Do you hope Gaiman comes back for a third time?

Remember last year when the CW was working on that Wonder Woman prequel? As you may recall, the concept was dropped after execs opted not to pick the project up for a pilot and it was thought to be done with. Well, apparently that isn’t the case, as Amazon is still actively being worked on according to CW’s Mark Pedowitz. While at the network’s upfront today, Pedowitz told reporters that despite the series not being being up for the fall run, Amazon is still very much being worked on.

“Oh God yes,” Pedowitz replied, when asked whether the project was still alive. “It’s being redeveloped. We don’t want to produce something” that doesn’t do the franchise justice. “It’s the trickiest of all the DC characters,” he added

It was rather unorthodox to see a series move into casting before it is picked up for a pilot, but a show like this relies heavily on the actress that is selected for the role and whomever is chosen will play a big part in how the character of Iris, which is how she is thought to be named for the series, is written. Amazon will take on the early years of Wonder Woman, with a teenager who was raised as a warrior in a far-off land placed in a modern world.

In regards to the version that was not picked up, Pedowitz said “the basics” were there, but the execution was lacking. You have to give them credit for not just running with the first idea they had. Fans of the new series Arrow can attest to that, as that series has been quite impressive so far. The last time the Wonder Woman character was attempted on the small screen, David E. Kelly was behind it, with GI Joe: Retaliation star Adrianne Palicki playing the lead role. That pilot was so bad, NBC quickly opted to pass on the project. Hopefully this one will work out and Warner Brothers can see the potential the character has for a feature film.

The ABC Upfront party took place last night, and Joss Whedon and the whole Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. team was on hand to talk and tease all kinds of Marvel goodness. There’s a lot of stuff rolling in today from the party, but we’ve tried our best to compile it all into one convenient place. There’s some quotes from Joss Whedon, Clark Gregg, and even some info on the mysterious character J. August Richard is playing. Spoiler Alert- He’s not Luke Cage like a lot of people thought. Read on for all the details.

The first stop on the S.H.I.E.L.D. Hellicarrier is a new interview with Clark “Agent Coulson” Gregg. Entertainment Weekly caught up with the actor and tried to squeeze some info out of him. Gregg revealed that we get some hints as to how Coulson came back to life, but we’re not going to get the whole story in the first episode. The actor teased we’ll have to wait and see what the truth is, but we’ll get some clues in the pilot. However he comes back, Gregg tries not to be too flippant about being resurrected:

I have a feeling if they killed me off again it would be for good so I’m very careful to read the end of the script every time I get one. It’s like getting struck by lightning. I kind of hope it hits somebody else first before it comes back to me.

Agent Coulson represents the people who don’t have superpowers, the guys who actually can be killed — or at least seem to be and yet come back sometimes … Marvel has such a lock on how to do really incredibly visual affects and stunts that we’ve got stuff on our show that I just don’t think we’ve seen on TV before.

During the actual Upfront presentation, Joss Whedon took the stage to say a few words about the project. The superstar director was joined on stage by the show’s cast when he tried to pitch everyone on the project. Deadline had a rundown of Whedon‘s speech. According to the site he was nervous as he gave his speech:

“I’ll be brief. I was born…” But then he grew serious. “I wasn’t born. I was grown in a lab… and fed on Marvel Comics — and that turned out OK for me.” As to why Avengers was so successful, Whedon said, “It worked because everyone felt included” and predicted the TV show would have the same effect on viewers. He praised S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s unorthodox leading man Clark Gregg as “an actor so talented even I couldn’t kill him” so Whedon said he “built S.H.I.E.L.D. around him” because he “had a story to tell [how] to be an ordinary person in an increasingly extraordinary world. We wanted to say that everybody could be a part of this – men, women, children and “grownups who love comic books”.

The third stop in the S.H.I.E.L.D. news tour is a video from Access Hollywood. They caught up with three of the cast members on the red carpet. They couldn’t say much, but they did tease some pretty interesting developments with their respective characters.

Again, he couldn’t say much but he did reveal that J. August Richard is not Luke Cage. Richards was spotted in most of the show’s trailers sporting some yellow pants while he was doing big, heroic things. Many began to speculate that he would be the famous Hero for Hire. This is what Bell said when asked the Cage question:

I’m going to say that’s an interesting Marvel character, but no. But he came in and killed it. Honestly, we were looking for this part, and we just said, look, all our parts are open to all diversity. So the fact that we have a black dude who is awesome and it’s J, was just because he was the best actor. It wasn’t like, “You know who…!”

I mean, we’re going to draw from it, but Marvel has its thing, and we’re also going to be expanding forward, and this world is different since The Avengers. So I think there will be people showing up, some from the Marvel Universe and some not. But to commit to anything more would be telling

J’s a guest star in it, and we talk about it like this: If you take all the Marvel movies, really only Captain America and the Hulk are the only real “superheroes” in all those movies. You’ve got an alien god, but in all those movies, there’s been, like, three [superheroes]. So if we trot out a superhero every week, it would be weird. But we’re saying the world is different and things are changing, so we will be finding other people — so whether it’s science or whether it’s a result of [what happened in] New York or whether they’re from somewhere else, we’re open to everything. Whatever makes cool stories.

There you have it. Everything you ever wanted to know from the Upfront red carpet presentation and more. Be sure to click to the sources, especially the IGN piece, because there are still several tidbits and teasers about the show. The biggest thing in there (probably) is J. August Richard‘s character. The past few days have seen people moving away from the Luke Cage speculation and more toward another character- Rage. Rage is best known as a member of the New Warriors. He has superhuman strength and invulnerability, so it fits with the few amazing feats we’ve seen in the promos. What do you think about all the news? Any guesses on who or what J. August Richard is?

You can go ahead and clear your schedule for Tuesdays this fall.

With the announcement came some new stills and promotional images for the show. We have character profile pics, a shot of Joss Whedon doing his thing, and a Twitter pick from Marvel Chief Creative Office Joe Quesada getting punched out by Clark Gregg. Quesada said that’s what happened when Gregg found out he touched Lola. What do you think of the new pics?

Clark Gregg reprises his role of Agent Phil Coulson from Marvel’s feature films as he assembles a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Together they investigate the new, the strange, and the unknown across the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary. Coulson’s team consists of Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), highly trained in combat and espionage, Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) expert pilot and martial artist, Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker); brilliant engineer and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) genius bio-chemist. Joining them on their journey into mystery is new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet). From Executive Producers Joss Whedon (“Marvel’s The Avengers,” ”Buffy the Vampire Slayer”); Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” pilot co-writers (“Dollhouse,” “Dr.Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog”); Jeffrey Bell (“Angel,” “Alias”); and Jeph Loeb (“Smallville”) comes Marvel’s first TV series. “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” is produced by ABC Studios and Marvel Television.

There are two big things going on in Twitterland today. They’re semi-related, but it’s two things nonetheless. The one that has Twitter all in a tizzy is that Joss Whedon, yes the real Joss Whedon, has joined Twitter under the handle @JossActual. the fan-favorite creator, writer, and director joined a little over 10 hours ago and he’s already passed the 50,000 followers mark. He’s only had three Tweets, so what the heck we’ll embed them all below. Check them out and be sure to follow. Hopefully he starts Tweeting about what he’s working on like Bryan Singer and Marc Webb does.

The other thing going on is a #CoulsonLives campaign was kicked off by the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. website. The site is encouraging fans to Tweet using the hashtag #CoulsonLives to unlock an extended trailer for the show. We got a pretty nifty 30 second trailer last night so an extended one would be nice, but the counter has been stuck on 23% for quite a while. The way these things usually go is they release it at a set time and all the hashtagging makes you feel like you contributed. I’m cynical about those types of thing, but keep Tweeting just in case. If you click on the [Proceed] section, it takes you to that viral site we told you about when the first promo hit. What do you think about the goings on in Twitterland?

I don’t think anyone was too concerned about ABC not picking up Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as a new series this fall, but we were all excited to hear the news last night that it had indeed been ordered to series. The pilot, directed by Joss Whedon, will air later this year when all the networks roll out their new shows for the fall around August or September-ish. The first promo for the S.H.I.E.L.D. show will air this Sunday during the Once Upon A Time season finale starting at 8pm EST. If you don’t want to set through the show, have no fear because as soon as it’s online we’ll have it here for you on CBT. But to hold us over until tomorrow, some new character badges and promo images have been released.

The banner above, the full cast picture in HD, and the article’s icon you see on the homepage were official Facebook account for the show. The character ID badges were rolled out by the SHIELD TV fansite. The image of Skye is particularly interesting though. ABC prematurely released a 7 second teaser video for the show featuring footage from The Incredible Hulk where Abomination was smashing some cars. The lower right hand corner of the video had a “RISING TIDE” icon. As you can read in the official synopsis, Skye the hacker is one of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s first cases. What do you think of the new material? Are you excited for the preview tomorrow?

Joss Whedon (MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) shows us not all heroes are super with MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

Fresh from his role in the summer’s box office smash, MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS, Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) returns to the worldwide law enforcement organization S.H.I.E.L.D. He puts together a small, highly trained, team of Agents to tackle the cases that haven’t been classified yet—the new, the strange and the unknown. That team consists of straight arrow Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), an expert in combat and espionage; pilot and martial artist Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen); and brilliant if socially awkward scientists Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge). Their initial investigations lead them to civilian computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet).

Prepare for an epic adventure that showcases the hope and wonder of the human spirit. This is a world of Super Heroes, aliens and the unusual—of action, spectacle and world spanning stories. The show will speak to the human condition through the lens of our very human, non-powered S.H.I.E.L.D agents—that together we are greater than we are apart, and that we can make a difference in the world.

Executive Produced and co-written by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen (Dollhouse, Dr.Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog), Jeffrey Bell (Angel, Alias) and Jeph Loeb (Smallville, Lost, Heroes) comes Marvel’s first live-action TV series, MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

Now we’re getting our first glimpse at some footage via two Disney teaser trailers for the show. The XD channel will be airing a hour long special that will show the first episode of Avengers Assemble and maybe Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. on Sunday May 26th at 11am EST (we say maybe because we’re not sure if it’s both shows or two episodes of Assemble). After the preview day on the 26th, the show will make its official premiere July 7th. What do you think of the first footage for the show? Does it ease your Earth’s Mightiest Heroes pain?

After a number of reports last night teasing that it was near, ABC has finally confirmed that yes, the Marvel Comics-based pilot Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. from director Joss Whedon has indeed landed a spot on the 2013-2014 schedule. Was there ever really any doubt?

Cody "The Thorverine" Ferrell, ABC Officially Picks Up Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Official Logo Unveiled

If Joss Whedon having a show back on TV wasn’t enough to blow your minds, word on the web is that the first promo for the brand-new series will air this Sunday during the Once Upon a Time season finale. EW unveiled the show’s logo after ABC made the announcement. Clark Gregg will lead the cast as Marvel ventures into the new series that spins out of The Avengers film.

Clark Gregg reprises his role of Agent Phil Coulson from Marvel’s feature films as he assembles a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D.

<a href="http://i1.wp.com/www.comicbooktherapy.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/GreenLanternGreenArrow.jpg" rel="lightbox[148483]" title="Marc Guggenheim Says "Never Say Never" On Green Lantern Appearing In Arrow">Arrow is gearing up for its big season finale, and looking to go into their season hiatus with a bang. The show has done an amazing job so far of teasing various DC characters and landmarks. They look to continue that trend as they head towards the season finale by having an island flashback scene where Oliver will try and prevent Fyers from shooting down a Ferris Air jetliner. That’s right, the same Ferris Air that is featured in the Green Lantern comics.

In the comics, Green Arrow and Green Lantern have spent quite a bit of time together back during the 70s thanks to Neal Adams and Dennis O’Neil. Writer for the show, Ben Sokolowski, pitched the idea to Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim who said it really spoke to him because of his work on the Green Lantern movie that featured Ryan Reynolds. “If all goes according to plan, when you see the Ferris Air logo later in the season, it will be the same logo that we established in the movie,” he said.

What about a possible appearance from the cosmic space cop himself, or his Ferris Air CEO girlfriend Carol? While it’s highly unlikely, Guggenheim isn’t ruling it out saying, “I would never say never. It’s certainly something that we’ve talked about.” However, they have some issues with bringing in a character such as Green Lantern, because they need to make sure he fits into Arrow’s more reality based tone. Having said that Guggenheim explains, “But when you consider the importance that Hal Jordan plays in the Green Arrow comics, it’s certainly one of those names that we’ve discussed a great deal.” He even went as far as saying he does still have Ryan Reynolds phone number.

While it seems unlikely that we will ever see a Green Lantern cameo, it is nice to know that Arrow cares enough about fans to try and work things like this into the show. For the latest on all things Arrow, make sure to check back here at Comic Book Therapy.
