If you haven’t seen The Walking Dead Episode 502: Strangers, then you better turn away because this post might contain spoilers.

After last week’s season premiere of AMC’s The Walking Dead, things settled down for our group of survivors just a little bit. We still got to see some action and walker threats, but we had some nice moments, like that dinner at the church. Church? Oh yeah we finally got to meet father Gabriel from the comic book. Whats up with that priest huh?TWD_502_GP_0522_0107ed

Rick and the majority of the group don’t trust that guy for some reason, and if you read the comic book you might know why, although it is not a guarantee that it will be the same in the TV show.

This season looks like it’s sticking pretty close to the source material and that is something that fans of the comic book will love.

Here are some videos of tonight’s episode:

INSIDE EPISODE 502: Strangers

MAKING OF EPISODE 502: Strangers

And here is the most talked about scene from episode 502:

BOB-BQ?

If you remember in the comic book Dale was the one that got captured by the Hunters, which were properly introduced in this episode as the survivors from Terminus. Since Dale is gone poor Bob had to take his place. How is this going to end? Are we going to see Bob scream the iconic words that Dale said in the comics? Im talking about this one:

TaintedMeat

I hope Bob gets to say those lines in the show. I think the reason Bob went outside and started crying it’s because he knew he was gonna die. He definitely got bit by that aqua-walker in the food bank (great make up BTW) and he was sad about having to say goodbye to Sasha and company. We should know by now that when things to get “ok” in The Walking Dead, it means that something horrible will happen. I mean c’mon fellas we’ve been doing this for five seasons. But thats the beauty of it right? We never know who is going to be.

How long will Gareth and his Hunters survive? Im not too sure, but one of the things we all know is that the actor who portrays Gareth, Andrew J. West, is a series regular now. What does it mean? Does he team up with Rick and company at some point? Will he survive until the end of the season? So many questions.AMC_TWD_Gareth_Gallery_2396_V2

Where is Beth? What is Father Gabriel hiding? Yes we have many questions that are left unanswered, but we can’t deny that this last 2 episodes have been great in all senses. Stay tuned for next week’s episode you really don’t want to miss it.

Bob-bq

AMC’s The Walking Dead Season 5 starts this Sunday October 12th, and before the first episode airs, AMC has renewed the show for a sixth season.

Walker fans rejoice!

Official Press Release:

Days away from its season five premiere, AMC announced today that it has renewed “The Walking Dead,” the #1 show on television among adults 18-49 for the last two years and most highly-rated show in cable television history, for a sixth season. The season five premiere is this Sunday, Oct. 12, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, followed by the live season premiere of “Talking Dead” at 10 p.m. ET/PT with host Chris Hardwick and this week’s guests Scott M. Gimple, Greg Nicotero and Conan O’Brien.

“We could not be more excited for October 12th as we share new episodes of ‘The Walking Dead’ with fans around the globe,” said AMC President Charlie Collier. “In advance of Sunday’s season five premiere, AMC proudly confirms a sixth season order of this extraordinary series. Thank you to Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple, the terrific executive producers, and the entire team who brings this compelling world and these rich characters to life. There’s plenty more Dead ahead thanks to their impressive, collective effort.”

Social media activity and interest around “The Walking Dead” is up significantly from the same period a year ago. For several weeks leading up to the season five premiere, the show has been #1 in digital engagement of all returning fall cable series, as measured by the ListenFirst Digital Audience Rating. The show’s social media following and fan engagement are at an all-time high with more than 30 million Facebook fans and 2.7 million Twitter followers, while video views of scenes and trailers for the upcoming season are well outpacing last year’s results.

For season six, Scott M. Gimple will return as the series’ showrunner and executive producer along with executive producers Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, Greg Nicotero and Tom Luse. AMC also recently announced that it has ordered a pilot for a potential companion series to “The Walking Dead,” based on a new story and new characters from Robert Kirkman.

Around the world, “The Walking Dead” will again be “First on FOX,” with FOX International Channels (FIC) bringing the show to audiences globally within 24 hours after the U.S. launch. Season 5 premieres on October 13 in all of its 125+ markets as part of FIC’s continued commitment to broadcast the series day-and-date internationally. Following the U.S. trend, “The Walking Dead” continues to break records overseas and has more than tripled its numbers on FOX since its launch.IMG_1399.JPG

OK, SPN Fans and WB/DC Comics fans, ARROW fans for that matter, the excitement begins tomorrow! Beginning with Debut premiere of THE FLASH. When last we left Mr. Barry Allen on the Mid season end of ARROW, he was caught in a powerful cataclysmic explosion of lightning struck particle reactor and definitively struck from the ensuing bolt of energy surging from the blast. Barry was left to ongoing recovery in the hospital with Felicity keeping tabs on his condition and regular visits to him therein.

Tomorrow, the wait is over..witness the transformation of a hero!

Then next on SUPERNATURAL, the EPIC, LANDMARK, SEASON 10 premier(and 200th episode) of CW’s most popular fantasy horror paranormal series with a HUGE dark and foreboding bang! When we last left the Winchesters, Castiel and Crowley…They were all caught in the final takedown of Metatron once and for all for the control of Heaven once more. Sam and Castiel were victorious in taking him along with the surprise help and sacrifices of Gadriel intervening into the fight as well. Unfortunately, before Metatron’s godly powers from the Angel tablet were dissipated from him. Metatron had already struck a fatal blow to Dean. Dean, still not being powerful enough to withstand Metatron’s fight and advances despite his enhanced abilities with still bearing the Mark of Cain and wielding the First Blade, succumbs to Metatron’s of stabbing of him. With Dean dead, Sam finds Crowley at blame for all this with Dean in the first place, and immediately arranges to summon his presence and force him to bring Dean back.

What surmised is an event we never really expected would happen, the old familar moral of becoming the very thing one swore to destroy has begun. With Dean still bearing the Mark of Cain, still bound to the First Blade and power it possesses, Crowley ignores Sam’s summons and promptly, and rather wittingly places the blade back in Dean’s hold and coaxes his resurrection…AS A DEMON!

Yes, fans, Dean has crossed a dark veil and is slave to the power that is possessing him… But, questions surmount as to whether is it actually the demon in him taking hold, or a darker side to Dean that has been brewing slowly over the last season or so that now has found its free reign. More urgently though, is the question of whether Sam and Castiel can bring Dean back for good again. With Sam not even aware at this point of Dean’s turn to “Dean-mon” and with Castiel’s borrowed time on the grace he took from Theo earlier last season to recoup his power, it looks like this season is in for quite a seige. Let’s how this epic season 10 will unfold…

Catch THE FLASH at its debut time tomorrow, Tuesday, 10/7 at 8/7c and after that SUPERNATURAL at its usual time again, 9/8c on the CW

Episode 501, “No Sanctuary”
We learn the true motives of the Terminans as Rick and the group find themselves in a vulnerable situation. Will they be able to work together?

Two weeks ago (thank you AMC!) I was able to watch the season premiere of AMC’s THE WALKING DEAD Season 5. Obviously I am going to keep this review SPOILER FREE, but what I can tell you is that is a really shocking episode. I had a hard time watching the first 10 minutes or so. I seriously don’t know how AMC got away with what we see in this episode. Yes I know, we are talking about THE WALKING DEAD here, it’s supposed to be shocking, but this time they took it to another level.

In case you didn’t know Greg Nicotero directed the episode, as he usually does. He is the one responsible for the make up you see in the walkers and is one of the producers.

We all know he likes gore and horror and fans won’t be disappointed. This episode is packed, and I mean packed with action.
In regards to this episode Nicotero said:
This was my eighth episode directing and it was by far the hardest episode I’ve ever directed. We are constantly trying to up the ante. The opening teaser is something that is so completely different than anything we’ve ever done with the show. It was so much fun, but so hard.

There’s a lot of loose ends that get tied and there’s a few more questions that will be answered in the future. Rick is back as we learned last season, and he is taking names and cashing checks. He is unstoppable in this episode, just wait until you see what he does.
Rick is basically a beast in a cage, and he is ready to take everyone who stands on his way. There’s a lot of suspense since the beginning of the episode and you will be biting your nails because that’s how intense it is. Who is gonna die? Who will survive? What is going to happen? You might see some answers to those questions, but you have to watch the episode first.

IMG_1366.JPG

As we know from the last season, Rick and company get captured by the people at Terminus. The episode picks up with our group of survivors trapped inside the boxcar and are trying to figure out what to do next, I mean , wouldn’t you be doing the same?

In “No Sanctuary” we get to see some characters stepping up to the plate, taking the initiative, and kicking butt like never before.

There’s not much I can say as far as specific details like who does and who doesn’t but theres a lot of action (duh!) walkers, suspense, gore and….. surprises.

I feel like this episode, “No Sanctuary” its a great one to start the season with since it has everything a Walking Dead fan can ask for, and I mean EVERYTHING. I promise that you won’t be disappointed.

Scott M. Gimple’ writing is impeccable and he manages to bring a lot of elements from the comics to each character, specially Rick.
Don’t believe me? Read what Norman Reedus has to say about it:

“The way Scott Gimple puts them together is so genius. Every little thing means something. He is really good at throwing people in different directions and you never exactly know where you are going to land. When you speculate what is going to happen, it ends up being completely different.”

We get to see some very emotional moments in this episode, which I feel it brings a nice balance to the story.

In conclusion: prepare to be at the edge of your seat, the wait is well worth it. You won’t be disappointed.

Welcome to the recap of the John Barrowman Q&A at Boston Con 2014! I’ll write everything down as it happens!

THIS IS NOT SAFE FOR WORK (NSFW)! He talks about some very adult topics that aren’t suited for younger audiences.  Also, I apologize for the audio quality at some points.

The crowd is going nuts waiting for the panel to start. Haven’t seen a panel this excited at Boston Con before. Seemed like 1,000 people were waiting for the panel but they only let in around 400.

Made sure to point out he’s going to be dirty……first dirty joke came within 30 seconds. Sucks for his nieces are in the crowd.

First question was about the Face of Boe. When asked if he was he said “Yes. There are few theories about how though. There is one gigantic speech, in ‘Utopia,’ where he describes how he dies. I think one of those ways is how he turns into the Face of Boe. His head has to be separated though.”

One fan thanked him for his work with deaf children. Their child benefited personally from it. John was quite touched. He explained how he blocked his ears for a day so he could experience being deaf. John said to visit his website to find out more info.

He got an MBE from England. So he is actually a queen now.

Next question was how easy was it to switch back and forth between seriousness and silliness with Jack. “The Doctor is the leader so Jack could relax a bit around him and by silly. But in Torchwood, he’s the leader of the pack and is carrying the weight of everything on his shoulders. We wanted it to be completely different.”

John was next asked how he picks his characters. “(laughs) The answer is probably going to disappoint you. Characters have come to me generally. I’ve been very lucky for the characters that have been presented to me. I always try to have a bit of me in the character though. For Malcolm Merlin, the part of me that is in him my smile (grinned widely).”

One fan asked if Torchwood would ever be on Broadway, “You don’t want to have Eve sing (laughs). She takes her shoes off and hums (no one laughed). Oh come on that was funny (laughs). I talked to Steven Schwartz and made a version of ‘The Wizard and Me’ from Wicked about the Doctor and Jack.”

Someone asked who would win in a battle with Silence vs Weeping Angels. The crowd got in on it fast and realized it would be a paradox. “I’m not going to lie I’m getting turned on by all of this a little,” joked Barrowman.

That was it for the John Barrowman Q&A! I hope you enjoyed all the video.

knickToday we’ve got a review for something a little different than what we usually cover. Steven Soderbergh is a guy who has brushed up against the comic book genre, but never really dived into the genre. He’s self-admittedly not a big fan, though he worked with Hank Pym himself, Michael Douglas, in last year’s mega-successful Behind the Candelabra and he vouched for the Russo Brothers before they landed the Captain America: The Winter Soldier gig. While he’s not likely to direct a superhero flick in the future, he’s definitely a director you should know about. As a fan of the director’s work, my interest was piqued when I heard about Cinemax’s new series The Knick. Soderbergh directs the entire series after returning from a brief hiatus with creators and writers Jack Amiel and Michael Begler bringing the turn-of-the-century medical drama to life. It didn’t hurt that fan-favorite actor (and Sin City alum) Clive Owen leads the cast. That’s why I was thrilled to get the chance to see the first episode ahead of its big debut this Friday. You can read on for a spoiler-free review of the bold new series.

New York. 1900. It’s a pivotal time in American history as horse and buggies are starting to give way to trollies and motorized “horseless carriages.” The old world and the new world are squaring off, and nothing will be the same from here on out. While culture is changing progressively, medical science is advancing exponentially. Nowhere is this more apparent than at The Knickerbocker Hospital, a high-end facility located uptown, away from the problems and plagues affecting the poor areas of the city inhabited by those filthy immigrants. The Knick is led by Dr. John Thackery (Owen), who has become the chief surgeon after the previous title holder Dr. Christenson (fantastically portrayed by Matt Frewer) shoots himself after yet another failed procedure involving a pregnant woman. Thackery is a hot-shot surgeon who sees mortality as a challenge. He tries to internalize each and every medical advancement and then use his own skill to advance it further. While the bodies pile up as each advancement and new procedure is tested, the hospital is losing money. A crooked health inspector and ambulance drivers (lead by Chris Sullivan as Tom Cleary in a standout role) who literally fight for patients in the street try to funnel patients and money to The Knick, but it’s not enough. When some big contributors are pushing for the newly appointed Thackery to hire Dr. Algernon Edwards (Andre Holland) as his assistant, personalities clash. Dr. Edwards is an African-American who studied extensively, but New York is a different world. Thackery is ready for innovation and exploring many medical “firsts,” but he’s not ready to lead the charge for an integrated hospital. The Knick is already called a circus, but it’s about to get even crazier.

knick posterWriters Amiel, Begler, and director Soderbergh craft a series that is big, bold, and ambitious. It is a slow-burner, but the drama, historical setting, and characters keep you watching. This is a visceral series in every sense of the word. Soderbergh takes an unblinking approach to the actual medical procedures and surgeries as we begin with an early C-section in all of its bloody detail all the way to a surgery to remove part of a patients bowels. The camera stays focused on all the blood and internal workings, making this a series with scenes not for the weak of stomach. Soderbergh’s close-ups and steady camera gives all the actors, especially Owen, room to say volumes with just a look. Tight shots tell just as much story as wide, sweeping shots showing off all the beautifully presented, and historically accurate, sets. The production value is there, and 1900s New York has never looked better. The clash between new and old is a metaphor for the series, but it is also visually represented from the horses sharing streets with trolleys to the gas lamps being thrown out in favor of this new electricity deal.

This is truly an ensemble piece. Owen is a strong leading man who brings equal parts gravitas and damage to the cocaine addicted Thackery, but he isn’t alone in shining performances. Andre Holland’s Dr. Algernon is a proud and capable man trying to navigate the racist hospital after being treated as an equal in Europe. The aforementioned ambulance team, led by Chris Sullivan as Tom Cleary, bring a bit of humor to a serious and tense series. From the health inspector to the slightly weasel-y hospital director, each character begins fully-formed and multi-faceted right out of the gate. Each gets a moment to stand out in the first episode, and it seems there’s going to be room for plenty of exploration throughout the remaining 9 episodes.

Bottom Line: The Knick is the grandfather of all medical dramas. In a current TV landscape where medical dramas are a dime a dozen, The Knick plays up some of those tried and true story types and gives it an interesting and historical twist with operating rooms full of hand cranks and bottles of ether. This is the beginning of modern medicine, and that can be interesting in its own right, but The Knick pulls you in with a cast of brilliant characters. Welcome to the circus. See you Friday night.

Also, the show was sent to us in one of the coolest boxes we’ve seen in some time. Check out some pics from the unboxing. The show was great, but this was just icing on an already bloody great…cake. Yeah, we’ll go with that.

I was lucky enough to cover the very popular Arrow press panel and talk to some of the stars of the show. The questions range from how season 3 starts, to how the relationship between Oliver and Felicity has changed since the infamous ‘I Love You’ scene, to where Oliver, Felicity, Roy, and the ever present Diggle stand due to Ollies lack of funds. It was a fun panel with some pretty awesome questions answered so give it a listen and I hope you enjoy.

It’s not much of a secret that comic books are taking over our televisions this fall. The CW is leading the charge with the return of Arrow and its spin-off, The Flash, along with the lesser known iZombie. Over at ABC, we’ll have the return of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which took things up a few notches in the final episodes of their freshman season. NBC is getting in on the game with their adaptation of Constantine, centered on John Constantine and the Hellblazer comics. That series, is expected to bring in some new names as well, such as The Spectre. Finally, we have one of the more anticipated series over at Fox, with Gotham.

This highly anticipated series documents the early days of Jim Gordon, when he first signs on as a detective, as well as the origins of several of Batman’s most notorious foes, such as The Penguin, Riddler, Poison Ivy and Catwoman. From what we’ve heard, Gotham is more of a gritty cop drama than it is comic book-like, which is a good thing. It’s heavy, dark and violent. Sound like it’s pretty accurate to me! We’ve got a bunch of new character posters highlighting the main players in the series, as well as new trailer focusing on the baddies and how they seem to be tied to Jim Gordon and the young Bruce Wayne. Check it out!

celayaIn a rather surprising move, Lucy Griffiths, who filled the role of Liv in the upcoming television adaptation of Constantine, was dumped after filming just one episode. The reasoning for this, according to the show’s producers, was that they, and the story were being “hamstrung” by her. Essentially, they wanted someone who could go toe-to-toe with John Constantine, played by Matt Ryan and offer up someone less…in the way, as I interpret it. The closing scenes of the pilot, which will officially make its world premier at San Diego Comic Con, will be re-shot to explain the sudden absence.

To replace her, producers went on the search for a Latina actress to fill the role of Zed, a character ripped from the pages of the Hellblazer comics. According to Deadline, it looks as though they have found their actress in Angelica CelayaSome may recognize Celaya from her time on Burn Notice and the recent reboot of the Dallas franchise Zed has psychic capabilities and a long history with Constantine, which will make for a more true and faithful adaptation.

The good news doesn’t end there however, as it was revealed that some familiar DC Comics faces will show up in the series. In the trailer for the series, we saw a glimpse of Dr. Fate’s helmet, suggesting that the character, or at least the magical helmet will have a role in future episodes. This also means that most of the DC occult universe is at their disposal, which leads us to our next bit of news. In a recent interview with IGN, series producers David S. Goyer and Daniel Cerone, revealed that another character will be making his way into the Constantine world. Cerone is the one who spilled the beans.

1876f6c548786b453ef4fa817bdedccd“Look, I’m just bringing you in on the early creative discussions,” Cerone said. “It might happen, it might not. It’s just the point you’re catching us at. Right now, episode five is off on outline. Within the context of episode five, we had a need for a police officer who sees that supernatural evils exist. Right there, okay, that’s an opportunity to introduce a DC character. So we talked to our DC representatives and we’re like what if we make this character Jim Corrigan, who goes on the become The Spectre.”

For those not familiar with the mystical character, Jim Corrigan is a police officer who isn’t good with the status quo and takes matters into his own hands. He is eventually killed and returns as The Spectre. Now, don’t expect Spectre to show up in episode five of Constantine, but I think we can expect to see the groundwork being laid out for him. Being that the whole occult universe of DC Comics may be at the disposal of the writers and producers, we may be seeing a lot more of the darker characters.

It will be interesting to see how this will effect Guillermo Del Toro’s take on Justice League Dark, which he’s been working on for some time. That film was to be centered on John Constantine and feature characters like Deadman, Etrigan, Zatanna and more. As with many Del Toro projects, however, that film is taking a while to come together.

Both these series will be at this years San Diego Comic Con with screenings of the premiers of each show, along with cast members to do a Q&A. It looks like there may be one more cast member joining The Flash panel as they have a new addition to the show, and he’s got close ties to Arrow’s Stephen Amell.

It was revealed today that Robbie Amell, network veteran and cousin to Stephen Amell, has joined the cast of The Flash, playing Ronnie Raymond, better known as Firestorm. Well, part of FirestormThe role is listed as recurring, so he’ll be around for a bit and will make his debut in the third episode of the season.

Ronnie Raymond, a maintenance worker at S.T.A.R. Labs and Dr. Caitlin Snow’s (Danielle Panabaker) fiancé, plays an integral part in the particle accelerator accident that transforms Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) into The Flash.
“Flash” executive producerGreg Berlanti said of Amell’s casting: “Geoff Johns, Andrew Kreisberg and myself designed the pilot and series to include Ronnie (aka Firestorm) — and to actually have someone with Robbie’s talent playing the role is beyond exciting. We can’t wait for viewers and fans of the character to check it out.”

Amell is no stranger to The CW, as he has had roles on The Tomorrow People. In the comics, Raymond was caught in a nuclear accident alongside physicist Martin Stein. The encounter fused to two together, forming the nuclear-powered Firestorm. Since Stein was unconscious during the event, it was Raymond who took control of the Firestorm form, with Stein serving as an inner conscious; a voice of reason.

The Flash also stars Grant Gustin, Daniell Panabaker, Candice Patton, Rick Cosnett and Tom Cavanagh. It will premier on The CW later this fall.

It’s that time of year when all the kids are out of school, it’s hot and The Walking Dead fans are at the height of their withdraws. We still have about 4 months before the hit AMC series returns, and frankly, I’m not sure I can make it! The closing of season four saw our favorite survivors being gathered and forced into a train car, where our hero, Rick Grimes, played by Andrew Lincoln, makes a rather menacing promise. Over the past several weeks, we’ve heard many of the actors, creators, producers and such say that season 5 will be “insane” and after a rather so-so second half of season 4, insane is just what we need.

So what can we expect to see in the fifth season? How about the famed Negan? Fans have been wondering when the psychotic villain would be introduced and for a while now, The Walking Dead creator, Robert Kirkman has said the character would eventually find his way to the television series, but not any time soon. Last night, on a special episode of The Talking Dead, host by Chris Hardwick, show runner Scott Gimple was asked what his favorite rumor about season five was. Needless to say, he may have slipped up and revealed something big.

“The recent one [rumor] that Jon Hamm was going to play Negan, who is a character coming up, a villain,” said Gimple.
With fangirl Aisha Tyler sitting right next to him, Gimple quickly added “coming up eventually.”

Now, is it possible that he may have gotten things confused and jumbled his words? Sure, but I don’t think that is what happened. A few weeks ago, Kirkman stated that he’d like to see Jon Hamm take on the role of one of Rick’s biggest foes, but obviously, we have not heard any word on casting.

Before I go on, I’m issuing a SPOILER WARNING to those who have not read the comics or to those who do not wish to know what may be headed our way in season 5.

the-walking-dead-season5

Still here? Good. It was rumored not long ago that fan-favorite Glenn, played by Steven Yeun was seen on set shaking hands and hugging his cast mates and the crew members. Usually when this has happened, it’s because the character won’t be back for a while…or at all. In the comics, Glenn meets his demise at the hands of Negan and his weapon of choice: a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire. While this is not in any way confirmed, the addition of Negan would certainly steer things in that direction. END SPOILERS!

Now, we won’t be receiving an official trailer for the fifth season of The Walking Dead until the end of this month, where it will premier at the San Diego Comic ConBut, there is a brand new clip to enjoy, which features Carol and Tyrese hiding from a horde of zombies. As we know, the pair are currently caring for Lil’ Ass Kicker, or as Rick calls her: Judith. The pair had a rather traumatic experience when Lizzie had to be…disposed of after killing her sister Mika and placing a threat on Judith. Check out the clip below. The Walking Dead is set to return to AMC this October.

atomHere’s some surprising news- Superman Return‘s Brandon Routh has joined the third season of Arrow as Ray Palmer aka The Atom. TV Line has learned that the former Man of Steel will now be the man of the atom as he joins the hit CW series in a very important recurring role. Not only does this mark Routh‘s return to the superhero game, it is also the first live-action appearance of The Atom on the big or (more fittingly) small screen.

The site says that Ray Palmer will be an “unparalleled scientist and inventor” who will “play an unexpected role in the lives of Oliver and (rumored love interest) Felicity as the new owner of Queen Consolidated. Palmer’s plans for Queen Consolidated’s Applied Sciences Division will be shrouded in mystery.” It sounds like Felicity will be moving on from her little crush on Barry Allen if this info proves to be true. And if it is indeed true, it sounds like anyone that wants to be a superhero needs to get involved with Felicity. Barry does some flirting, goes home, gets struck by lightning, and then he’s a superhero. Now Ray will come in, flirt, and then probably get his super secret Applied Sciences Division project off the ground. What do you think about Routh not only returning to DC but bringing the publisher’s little hero to life? Are you surprised they’ll beat Ant-Man to the tiny punch?

lr_peter-421As The CW continues it’s onslaught of awesomeness in regards to comic book adaptations, they look forward to the third season of the hit series Arrow. Earlier this week, it was announced that Devon Aoki had joined the cast as Oliver’s past mentor, Katana, who will be featured in flashbacks. The growth continues this afternoon as another familiar face has signed on to the series.

Peter Stormare, a face that many folks will recognize has joined Arrow as Werner Zytle, better known to many as Count Vertigo in the comics world. Now, fans of the series may know that Seth Gabel played a character named The Count. However, he’s been disposed of. Stormare will be introduced as the new maker of the drug “Vertigo” and will be the first villain that the Arrow will have to face and will go by the name Vertigo.

Stormare looks to be pulling bad guy double-duty, as he was recently revealed as the character known as Berlin on the hit series The Blacklist on NBC (an incredible series if you haven’t seen it). The third season of Arrow is slated for an October 8 premier on The CW. The guests at this year’s San Diego Comic Con will be able to get an advanced look at that premier as WBTV is bringing it and many of it’s series to the con for world premiers and such.

6:00 p.m. — It’s OK, you can peek — WBTV gets Comic-Con off to a dramatic start for the seventh year in a row by hosting a special sneak peek, world-premiere screening event on Preview Night, debuting some of the most hotly anticipated new series of the year. For 2014, WBTV will screen the complete pilot episodes of The Flash, Constantine and iZOMBIE. Additionally, Warner Bros. Animation will unveil a brand-new episode of Teen Titans Go! Ballroom 20

The Flash: From the Arrow creative team of executive producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg and director David Nutter, The Flash is a fast-paced super hero drama based upon the characters from DC Comics that follows the high-speed adventures of the Fastest Man Alive. With a pilot written by Berlanti, Kreisberg and DC Entertainment’s Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns, the action drama follows police scientist and everyday guy Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), who, after an unexpected Particle Accelerator accident, is suddenly charged with the ability to move at incredible speeds, which he uses to help the people of Central City.

Constantine: Based upon the characters from DC Comics and executive produced by Daniel Cerone (Dexter) and David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, The Dark Knight films), Constantine reflects the lore of the fan-favorite comic, combining noirish storytelling with the evolving mythology of John Constantine (Matt Ryan), a morally challenged character who doesn’t come down on the side of either good or evil … but ultimately might be the only thing defending us against the dark forces from beyond.

iZOMBIE: Co-created and executive produced by Rob Thomas & Diane Ruggiero-Wright (Veronica Mars), along with executive producers Danielle Stokdyk and Dan Etheridge (also of Veronica Mars), Rose McIver (Masters of Sex, Once Upon a Time) stars as Olivia “Liv” Moore, a 25-year-old medical resident on the fast track to a perfect life … until she’s turned into a zombie. Liv transfers her residency to the coroner’s office for access to the brains she must reluctantly eat, but with each brain she consumes, she inherits the corpse’s memories. With her medical examiner boss and a police detective, she now solves homicides to quiet the voices in her head. iZOMBIE is based upon characters created by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred for Vertigo.

Teen Titans Go!: Robin, Starfire, Cyborg, Beast Boy and Raven continue the fun in Teen Titans Go! with all-new comedic adventures, giving viewers a look at what life is really like as a teen super hero … once the cape comes off.

sherlockIt was pretty well guaranteed that the BBC smash-hit series Sherlock would be returning. The only thing we didn’t know was when Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman would be returning to Baker Street. The duo have become hot commodities over the last few years and keep ridiculously busy schedules. With the movies the two have committed to, most thought the fourth series of Sherlock was still a few years out. It apparently turns out there is an open space in their schedules so the BBC have commissioned not only the fourth series of the show, but a very special episode that will likely air Christmas 2015.

The last series of Sherlock saw a rather shocking ending that gives us a good idea of where things may pick up. Series co-creator and writer Steven Moffat teased the big order of a special and a full three-episode series, saying “A special, plus a new series of three episodes – it’s a record-breaking run! Of course, it’s far too early to say what’s coming, but we’re reasonably confident that the very next thing to happen to Sherlock and John, is the very last thing you’d expect…Moffat‘s partner in crime, co-creator and writer Mark Gatiss added, “Series Four! At last ! It’s always special to return to Sherlock but this time it’s even more special as we’re doing… a Special! Not only THAT, we’ll then be shooting three more episodes which will take Sherlock and John Watson into deeper and darker water than ever before. The whole Sherlock team are terrifically excited to return for four new adventures. The Game is on – again!”

Filming for the special is set for January 2015 with the three-episode series shooting sometime later in the year. Star Martin Freeman mentioned just a few weeks ago that he understands a Christmas special is planned, so we could be seeing a rather festive episode next year. If that is indeed the plan, we can expect series 4 to follow shortly thereafter in early 2016. What do you think about the news?

Every fall, our televisions are bombarded with new television series, most of which are run-of-the-mill cop dramas, or medical shows or the always reliable court room procedurals. While there are usually one or two stand-outs, most find their way into the proverbial trash can pretty quickly. This fall, things will be much different as comic book properties are invading our living rooms like never before as multiple comic book properties are headed to the small screen, joining the hit CW series Arrow. The first being a spin-off from that series, The Flash. We’ve already seen some cross-over episodes featuring the two characters, something that is likely to happen again as the two progress. Also joining the field are Gotham which will be airing on Fox, which explores the origins of many of the Batman rogues we’re familiar with, including Penguin, Catwoman, Poison Ivy and The Riddler. We’ll also see the younger days of Jim Gordon and his relationship with a very young Bruce Wayne. Finally, we have a series that took many folks by surprise, Constantine, which can be seen on NBC.

It was announced today that Gotham and The Flash will have their world premier at the famous San Diego Comic Con, in what is being called WBTV/DC Entertainment Saturday Night. Also being featured that night are exclusive video presentations of Constantine, with a visit from some of the cast and crew of the show. constantineJohn Constantine is a chain-smoking, trench coat wearing, foul-mouthed fighter of the supernatural. The Hellblazer is known for his hard living and even harder head. When he comes to network television later this year, it appears he’ll only have to drop one of his bad habits to please the network. Constantine pilot director Neil Marshall has said that everyone’s favorite antihero from Liverpool won’t be smoking in his new series. The show will get to be as dark and horrific as is wishes, if that’s any consolation to the hardcore fans.

Speaking to Collider on the red carpet at the Saturn Awards, Marshall was asked the big question. Executive producer David Goyer had said earlier this year that they were negotiating with NBC about whether or not John could smoke on his show, but Marshall reveals that apparently didn’t work out. They had to compromise and let the cigarettes go so they could keep some of the darker elements. The director said, “No we’re not. It’s the one thing, a compromise I guess.  On network it’s the one thing you can’t smoke on network.  That’s one of his character traits.  We’re working around that.  We’re trying to get aspects of it in there as much as possible.  We’ll see.

constantineIn the comics Constantine got lung cancer and concocted a big plan to trick three different demons by selling them his soul. Discovering his trick and realizing Constantine‘s death would ignite a war to collect on the soul where God was the only winner, the demons cured Constantine‘s cancer. If the series took place after some variation of these events, it would make sense John has kicked the habit. When asked about that possibility, Marshall said he didn’t know where the story is going past the pilot and his episode has no mention of cancer. While smoking is one of Constantine‘s character traits and it may disappoint some to see that dropped, the trailer for the show seems to have perfectly captured all the other important elements of the series. Marshall assured that things will be dark and disturbing:

Hannibal is on NBC, and that’s pretty dark and disturbing.  Whatever the regulations are, you can be as dark and disturbing as you want and we’re going to go in that direction.  The intention is to be as dark and scary as possible with the show.  And that was our whole kind of plan going in, to make it scary.  So we’re going to explore all kinds of things.  But the smoking is very frustrating.  Who knows where it will go; where the story will go; where the character will go?  There’s still lots of options.

So we get a darker, disturbing, and more faithful adaptation of Constantine minus the smoking. While most would agree with Marshall‘s assessment that it’s frustrating, fans may look over that fact if the show keeps in line with other things as it appears to do in the trailers and TV spots. What do you think about Constantine having to go cold turkey?

Of all the guests that were announced for Phoenix Comic Con, this man produced the biggest wows of the con. With only a small list of roles of major note, this actor won the hearts and minds of fans rather quickly and IMMENSELY at that. We are talking about none other Nathan Fillion, reknown star of the sensational but tragically short-lived retro/western-flavored scifi series spectacular FIREFLY and his current hit mystery/crime/romance series CASTLE. Fillion appeared at his panel in the late afternoon of Saturday, June 7th. His panel being one of the most highly anticipated of all it seemed, even other guests such as Bruce Campbell, and ARROW‘s Stephen Amell made rather significant comical note to it as if they were playing second fiddle to his event.

Fillion brought on the charm and friendliness he is known well for on and off-screen and talked about life on the set of his famous roles and what they meant to him, hilarious anecdotes, and opened the floor to all the amusing Q n A that followed soon after. He even touched on a few points related to some of his answers in the Q n A on subjects that were of great interest to him as well(such as getting second chance for Firefly living in the moment of treasuring his time filming the Serenity movie). He also touched on subjects more related to a practical and political note such as green energy technologies, and use of electric cars, as such resulting from being asked about what gadgets would interest him.)

With each question he addressed from a fan, he amusingly offered a watch as a courtesy gift for their participation. QnA continued with fun facts about one episode taking place at a comic con that Star Trek TNG star Jonathon Frakes (Commander Riker, “Number One”) directed.

He ended off with mentioning how much he feels connected with his fans at that moment when he ends a panel, and made his pleasantry exit.  All in all, fans were thrilled and delighted with Nathan Fillion’s appearance at Phoenix Comic Con 2014… With many hoping and wishing he will return for next year the same.  Let us hope he does…
