SPECIAL SNEAK PEEK PILOT SCREENINGS
WEDNESDAY, JULY 23

6:00 p.m. — It’s OK, you can peek — WBTV gets Comic-Con off to a dramatic start for the seventh year in a row by hosting a special sneak peek, world-premiere screening event on Preview Night, debuting some of the most hotly anticipated new series of the year. For 2014, WBTV will screen the complete pilot episodes of The Flash, Constantine and iZOMBIE. Additionally, Warner Bros. Animation will unveil a brand-new episode of Teen Titans Go! Ballroom 20

The Flash: From the Arrow creative team of executive producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg and director David Nutter, The Flash is a fast-paced super hero drama based upon the characters from DC Comics that follows the high-speed adventures of the Fastest Man Alive. With a pilot written by Berlanti, Kreisberg and DC Entertainment’s Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns, the action drama follows police scientist and everyday guy Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), who, after an unexpected Particle Accelerator accident, is suddenly charged with the ability to move at incredible speeds, which he uses to help the people of Central City.

Constantine: Based upon the characters from DC Comics and executive produced by Daniel Cerone (Dexter) and David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, The Dark Knight films), Constantine reflects the lore of the fan-favorite comic, combining noirish storytelling with the evolving mythology of John Constantine (Matt Ryan), a morally challenged character who doesn’t come down on the side of either good or evil … but ultimately might be the only thing defending us against the dark forces from beyond.

iZOMBIE: Co-created and executive produced by Rob Thomas & Diane Ruggiero-Wright (Veronica Mars), along with executive producers Danielle Stokdyk and Dan Etheridge (also of Veronica Mars), Rose McIver (Masters of Sex, Once Upon a Time) stars as Olivia “Liv” Moore, a 25-year-old medical resident on the fast track to a perfect life … until she’s turned into a zombie. Liv transfers her residency to the coroner’s office for access to the brains she must reluctantly eat, but with each brain she consumes, she inherits the corpse’s memories. With her medical examiner boss and a police detective, she now solves homicides to quiet the voices in her head. iZOMBIE is based upon characters created by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred for Vertigo.

Teen Titans Go!: Robin, Starfire, Cyborg, Beast Boy and Raven continue the fun in Teen Titans Go! with all-new comedic adventures, giving viewers a look at what life is really like as a teen super hero … once the cape comes off.

sherlockIt was pretty well guaranteed that the BBC smash-hit series Sherlock would be returning. The only thing we didn’t know was when Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman would be returning to Baker Street. The duo have become hot commodities over the last few years and keep ridiculously busy schedules. With the movies the two have committed to, most thought the fourth series of Sherlock was still a few years out. It apparently turns out there is an open space in their schedules so the BBC have commissioned not only the fourth series of the show, but a very special episode that will likely air Christmas 2015.

The last series of Sherlock saw a rather shocking ending that gives us a good idea of where things may pick up. Series co-creator and writer Steven Moffat teased the big order of a special and a full three-episode series, saying “A special, plus a new series of three episodes – it’s a record-breaking run! Of course, it’s far too early to say what’s coming, but we’re reasonably confident that the very next thing to happen to Sherlock and John, is the very last thing you’d expect…Moffat‘s partner in crime, co-creator and writer Mark Gatiss added, “Series Four! At last ! It’s always special to return to Sherlock but this time it’s even more special as we’re doing… a Special! Not only THAT, we’ll then be shooting three more episodes which will take Sherlock and John Watson into deeper and darker water than ever before. The whole Sherlock team are terrifically excited to return for four new adventures. The Game is on – again!”

Filming for the special is set for January 2015 with the three-episode series shooting sometime later in the year. Star Martin Freeman mentioned just a few weeks ago that he understands a Christmas special is planned, so we could be seeing a rather festive episode next year. If that is indeed the plan, we can expect series 4 to follow shortly thereafter in early 2016. What do you think about the news?

Every fall, our televisions are bombarded with new television series, most of which are run-of-the-mill cop dramas, or medical shows or the always reliable court room procedurals. While there are usually one or two stand-outs, most find their way into the proverbial trash can pretty quickly. This fall, things will be much different as comic book properties are invading our living rooms like never before as multiple comic book properties are headed to the small screen, joining the hit CW series Arrow. The first being a spin-off from that series, The Flash. We’ve already seen some cross-over episodes featuring the two characters, something that is likely to happen again as the two progress. Also joining the field are Gotham which will be airing on Fox, which explores the origins of many of the Batman rogues we’re familiar with, including Penguin, Catwoman, Poison Ivy and The Riddler. We’ll also see the younger days of Jim Gordon and his relationship with a very young Bruce Wayne. Finally, we have a series that took many folks by surprise, Constantine, which can be seen on NBC.

It was announced today that Gotham and The Flash will have their world premier at the famous San Diego Comic Con, in what is being called WBTV/DC Entertainment Saturday Night. Also being featured that night are exclusive video presentations of Constantine, with a visit from some of the cast and crew of the show. Also being revealed on July 26th will be a never-before-seen teaser video for the third season of Arrow, followed by a Q and A from the cast. Certainly and event not to be missed by DC Comic fans. Check out the press release below for all the details and be sure to check back to Comic Book Therapy for all the news coming out of San Diego in July.

constantineJohn Constantine is a chain-smoking, trench coat wearing, foul-mouthed fighter of the supernatural. The Hellblazer is known for his hard living and even harder head. When he comes to network television later this year, it appears he’ll only have to drop one of his bad habits to please the network. Constantine pilot director Neil Marshall has said that everyone’s favorite antihero from Liverpool won’t be smoking in his new series. The show will get to be as dark and horrific as is wishes, if that’s any consolation to the hardcore fans.

Speaking to Collider on the red carpet at the Saturn Awards, Marshall was asked the big question. Executive producer David Goyer had said earlier this year that they were negotiating with NBC about whether or not John could smoke on his show, but Marshall reveals that apparently didn’t work out. They had to compromise and let the cigarettes go so they could keep some of the darker elements. The director said, “No we’re not. It’s the one thing, a compromise I guess.  On network it’s the one thing you can’t smoke on network.  That’s one of his character traits.  We’re working around that.  We’re trying to get aspects of it in there as much as possible.  We’ll see.

constantineIn the comics Constantine got lung cancer and concocted a big plan to trick three different demons by selling them his soul. Discovering his trick and realizing Constantine‘s death would ignite a war to collect on the soul where God was the only winner, the demons cured Constantine‘s cancer. If the series took place after some variation of these events, it would make sense John has kicked the habit. When asked about that possibility, Marshall said he didn’t know where the story is going past the pilot and his episode has no mention of cancer. While smoking is one of Constantine‘s character traits and it may disappoint some to see that dropped, the trailer for the show seems to have perfectly captured all the other important elements of the series. Marshall assured that things will be dark and disturbing:

Hannibal is on NBC, and that’s pretty dark and disturbing.  Whatever the regulations are, you can be as dark and disturbing as you want and we’re going to go in that direction.  The intention is to be as dark and scary as possible with the show.  And that was our whole kind of plan going in, to make it scary.  So we’re going to explore all kinds of things.  But the smoking is very frustrating.  Who knows where it will go; where the story will go; where the character will go?  There’s still lots of options.

So we get a darker, disturbing, and more faithful adaptation of Constantine minus the smoking. While most would agree with Marshall‘s assessment that it’s frustrating, fans may look over that fact if the show keeps in line with other things as it appears to do in the trailers and TV spots. What do you think about Constantine having to go cold turkey?

Of all the guests that were announced for Phoenix Comic Con, this man produced the biggest wows of the con. With only a small list of roles of major note, this actor won the hearts and minds of fans rather quickly and IMMENSELY at that. We are talking about none other Nathan Fillion, reknown star of the sensational but tragically short-lived retro/western-flavored scifi series spectacular FIREFLY and his current hit mystery/crime/romance series CASTLE. Fillion appeared at his panel in the late afternoon of Saturday, June 7th. His panel being one of the most highly anticipated of all it seemed, even other guests such as Bruce Campbell, and ARROW‘s Stephen Amell made rather significant comical note to it as if they were playing second fiddle to his event.

Fillion brought on the charm and friendliness he is known well for on and off-screen and talked about life on the set of his famous roles and what they meant to him, hilarious anecdotes, and opened the floor to all the amusing Q n A that followed soon after. He even touched on a few points related to some of his answers in the Q n A on subjects that were of great interest to him as well(such as getting second chance for Firefly living in the moment of treasuring his time filming the Serenity movie). He also touched on subjects more related to a practical and political note such as green energy technologies, and use of electric cars, as such resulting from being asked about what gadgets would interest him.)

With each question he addressed from a fan, he amusingly offered a watch as a courtesy gift for their participation. QnA continued with fun facts about one episode taking place at a comic con that Star Trek TNG star Jonathon Frakes (Commander Riker, “Number One”) directed.

He ended off with mentioning how much he feels connected with his fans at that moment when he ends a panel, and made his pleasantry exit.  All in all, fans were thrilled and delighted with Nathan Fillion’s appearance at Phoenix Comic Con 2014… With many hoping and wishing he will return for next year the same.  Let us hope he does…

The following article discusses events that have taken place in season four of HBO’s Game of Thrones as well as the books that the hit television series is based on. There are major spoilers involved herein. You’ve been warned!

As the fourth season of HBO’s monstrous hit Game of Thrones came to a close a few weeks ago, there was something that many fans were expecting to see that never happened. An out-pouring of disappointment and outrage engulfed the internet as fans wanted to see the reveal of Lady Stoneheart. So what happened? Why was the character never revealed? Last week, we learned from season four finale director Alex Graves that there essentially was no room for the vengeful character in the current scheme of things. However, he didn’t know whether the show-runners had future plans for Stoneheart or not. But thanks to EW, we may have an idea of what to expect. Or not expect, for that matter.

While chatting with Michelle Fairley, who portrayed Catelyn Stark in the series, the actress reveals some rather disappointing news in regards to Lady Stoneheart and whether or not we can expect to see more of her.

les-fans-se-sont-amuses-a-faire-des-montagesEW: There was a lot of online conversation. I heard third-hand that you were basically told that it’s not likely to ever happen. Is that accurate?
Fairley: Yeah, the character’s dead. She’s dead.
EW: Do you have a preference at all—do you think Catelyn’s arc should end where it ended, or would you be into the resurrection idea?
Fairley: You respect the writers’ decision. I knew the arc, and that was it. They can’t stick to the books 100 percent. It’s impossible—they only have 10 hours per season. They have got to keep it dramatic and exciting, and extraneous stuff along the way gets lost in order to maintain the quality of brilliant show.

I’ll wait while you shed a few tears. Anyone who has read the books or watched this series knows that the story of Westeros is very sprawling and complicated and as Fairley suggests, they only have ten hours per season to tell this vast story. So it shouldn’t come as too big a surprise to learn that certain things will have to be omitted. It’s just a shame it has to be this one.

Now, is it possible that they just haven’t told Fairley the future plans for upcoming seasons and Lady Stoneheart could still rear her ugly head? Certainly, but I’m not holding my breath. The biggest reason that we’ve been given for the omission of the character is because the show-runners are worried the inclusion of Stoneheart would lessen the effect of the super tragic Red Wedding. Which is understandable, as that event was one of the most tragic and shocking events to ever grace the small screen. However, it certainly would be pretty bad ass to see the character wreak havoc on the land.

What are your thoughts? Do you think Stoneheart will eventually make it into the story or is she pretty much doomed to the pages of George R. R. Martin’s lengthy books? If she is indeed left out, it can be assumed that several characters, such as Brienne will have a much different fate in the series compared to the books. Sound off below!

Keeping in line with the previous trailers and teaser spots for the highly-anticipated show, the posters are playing up the fact that we’re going to be seeing the origins of some of Batman‘s most notorious foes. Things are going to be somewhat dark and gritty before we see Bruce Wayne take on the his destiny as the city’s protector, and these posters show that perfectly.

Bleeding Cool got their hands on a nice scan of a teaser poster appearing in DC Comics today, and its interesting tagline of “The Origin Stories Begin In Gotham.” In a stroke of perfect timing, EW have posted eight character posters. While we’ve seen the images used for some of them before, we do get a brand new look at Care Foley as Ivy Pepper/Poison Ivy. What do you think about the new batch of posters?

Josh "ecksmanfan" Johnson, Steven R. McQueen Explains Those NIGHTWING Rumors

nightwing610As we know, rumors surrounding Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice have been running rampant for the better part of a year now. Who’s playing Batman? Is this really a Justice League movie? What about Wonder Woman? The list goes on and on and will likely continue to do so until our butts are planted in the theaters seats watching the end credits role. One of those rumors centers on Nightwing, the former sidekick of the Dark Knight who ventures on his own to fight crime in his own way. The rumors have suggested that the character will be taking part in the highly anticipated sequel to Man of Steel. While the rumor has never been confirmed, it hasn’t been denied either, so for the time being, it remains a mystery.

But, that’s not the only Nightwing rumor floating around the interwebs. Last fall, grandson of the acting legend Steve McQueen, and star of the hit CW series, The Vampire Diaries, Steven R. McQueen, tweeted a picture, which you can see below, of himself working out, while wearing a Nightwing shirt. He also tagged Greg Berlanti, producer of Arrow, also on CW. Of course, the picture sent nerds on a rampage, wondering if he’d been cast in the role, or if it was a self-campaign, or something else all together. The young actor, who was speaking with The Wrap, finally clears things up and offers an explanation on the picture.

Well, I’m a, I’m a comic book fan. For sure. I’ve read comic books since I was a kid. I’ve always enjoyed them. And there’s one character, Nightwing, who’s kinda Robin when he’s grown up and he tries to make his own name and a path for himself. I think it’s a great story that hasn’t really been told. I worked with Greg Berlanti on a show called Everwood and no he’s producing Arrow and jokingly I tweeted him, being like ‘When are we going to see Nightwing?’ People started writing about it and there was a couple articles and I was like ‘Alright, this is kinda…I’m feeling a little powerful right now, let’s keep putting this energy in the universe, see what happens.’

McQueen goes on to say that he has not received any phone calls and he’s not been offered any parts in the hit series. But, he is certainly open to the idea and warns his Vampire Diares fans that if the opportunity comes up, he’s taking it: You know, if I get a chance to play a superhero, I can’t make any promises that I’m not going to run with it.” Anyone who passes on an opportunity like that would have to be insane, and I don’t want to know them. The role of Nightwing is one that many comic fans have been dying to see on screen, big or small, so they would be happy to see it happen.

The big question is, however, is Steven R. McQueen right for the role? Having seen him in The Vampire Diaries (don’t judge me), there are worse choices out there. McQueen certainly looks the part and has proven with his current role that he can handle action scenes and fight choreography. His acting however, is not amazing. But that is something can be worked with. The character would be an interesting addition to the Arrow family and the show-runners have never completely said no to the idea. The problem now, is that Fox has some heavy ties with the Batman world with the anticipated Gotham series. But…that would be a prequel, so Dick Grayson would be nothing more that a twinkle in his father’s eye at that point. Maybe it’s a race to see who gets there first. Check out the whole video over at The Wrap, where McQueen discusses his love for Comic Con and more.

rosario dawson iamges 1600X1200Netflix and Marvel are gearing up to begin filming the first of four series to air on the popular streaming site. Daredevil will be the first out of the gate, with Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage to follow. This will culminate in a Defenders miniseries that will also be featured on the site. After a rather tumultuous start, we’ve landed on Steven DeKnight as a show-runner after Drew Goddard left the project. Shortly after, it was announced that Charlie Cox (Stardust) would be playing the titular role. More recently, in a bit of genius casting, Vincent D’Onofrio landed the role of Kingpin.

Today comes a scoop from EW that states actress Rosario Dawson has signed on to the project. While her character isn’t named, a rather vague description was given by the site:

…we’re told Dawson will play a “dedicated young woman whose quest to heal the wounds of Hell’s Kitchen brings Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) unexpectedly crashing into her life, while her own journey forever alters the course of his battle against the injustices of this broken city.”

Hmmm…any thoughts on that one? Filming on the series is expected to begin this summer, with it hitting Netflix next year. Rosario Dawson can next be seen in the highly anticipated and log awaited Sin City: A Dame To Kill For this August. We can expect to see more and more casting on this series as well as the other three in the coming weeks and months, so stay tuned to Comic Book Therapy for all the latest. Full press release below.

Marvel and Netflix are proud to announce that acclaimed actress Rosario Dawson has joined “Marvel’s Daredevil,” an all-new 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015.
Known for her powerful work in “Cesar Chavez,” “Kids” and the upcoming “Sin City: A Dame To Kill For,” Rosario Dawson will play a dedicated young woman whose quest to heal the wounds of Hell’s Kitchen brings Matt Murdock unexpectedly crashing into her life, while her own journey forever alters the course of his battle against the injustices of this broken city.
Dawson joins Charlie Cox (previously announced as Matt Murdock) and Vincent D’Onofrio (previously announced as Wilson Fisk) in the critically-lauded cast of “Marvel’s Daredevil.”
“Rosario Dawson is one the most charismatic, talented and powerful actresses in Hollywood, so she was always at the top of our list for ‘Marvel’s Daredevil,’” said Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television. “Her role in the series is absolutely critical to Matt Murdock’s journey to become the hero we know as Daredevil.”
“Marvel’s Daredevil” follows the journey of Matt Murdock, who was blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, now fighting against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City.
Marvel’s first original series on Netflix is Executive Produced by series Showrunner Steven S. DeKnight (“Spartacus”, “Buffy: The Vampire Slayer”, “Angel”) and Drew Goddard (“Cabin in the Woods,” “Lost,” “Buffy The Vampire Slayer”, in addition to writing the first two episodes of “Marvel’s Daredevil”), along with Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Smallville,” “Heroes”).
“Marvel’s Daredevil” is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.

captain coldWe’ve been hearing a lot about the good guys and gals of The Flash (Barry Allen, S.T.A.R. Labs, Iris West), but we’ve not gotten a lot of information about the villains. We know that Reverse Flash/Professor Zoom showed up very quickly in the extended trailer for the show and that Danielle Panabaker‘s Caitlin Snow will probably make the jump from helping Barry (Grant Gustin) at S.T.A.R. Labs to the dark side sometime down the line as Killer Frost, but that’s about it for the Rogues. A recent interview from IGN with actor Rick Cosnett and an interesting Tweet from Geoff Johns may gives us some new clues.

zoomSpeaking with IGN on the red carpet during a CW event, Rick Cosnett danced around the question of whether or not he really is Flash‘s most notorious villain, Reverse Flash. Cosnett plays Eddie Thawne, which sounds a whole lot like Eobard Thawne aka Reverse Flash aka Professor Zoom. While the actor says his character and Barry Allen will be friends, there is some tension between the two. I’d imagine there will be a lot more than tension if it turns out Eddie killed Barry‘s mom under the guise of Reverse Flash. Cosnett says of Eddie Thawne:

He’s very calm, he’s very nice, he’s very golden. He’s a good guy that’s almost flawless. He sweeps in and saves the day much to Barry’s dismay. That creates a great tension, I think, for Barry because we’re friends as well. That’s always kind of wonderful to be able to play that between the two of us. There are also some wonderful women in the show who we both…kind of maybe…get in the middle of us should we say. You’ll have to wait and see who that is.

The actor showed off his advanced question dodging skills when asked point blank if he’ll be suiting up in the yellow and red costume of the iconic villain. While he doesn’t confirm or deny it, we can probably expect to see Eddie take an interesting turn sometime during the first several episodes:

Well I hope to do the fans proud on this one. There are going to be a lot of surprises coming up. And I think it’s just…you know…I’m trying to dance around your question because I really want everyone to be surprised. Inevitably I think they are going to be because Geoff Johns is writing for the show. He kind of gets full reign on what to do. I think fans are going to be really shocked, surprised, and delighted by what’s going to happen.

Speaking of Geoff Johns, the DC head honcho and TV writer dropped a rather interested Tweet about a story meeting he had with Flash showrunners Kreisberg and Berlanti. That seems like a hint that an ice cold villain like perhaps Captain Cold could be showing up, huh? Cold is one of Flash‘s other big villains, so it’s no surprise he’d be showing up sooner or later. What do you think about the latest Flash tidbits?

TheFlashTVShowbannerThe official Facebook page for The Flash has unveiled the third featurette for the highly-anticipated CW series spinning out of Arrow. This time around neither S.T.A.R. Labs nor Barry Allen‘s new friends get the spotlight. This time Barry‘s relationship with Iris West (Candice Patton) is explored. Barry (Grant Gustin) grew up with Iris after his mother was murdered and his father was wrongly imprisoned, and it appears all those years together has planted him firmly into the friend zone. Part of the show’s approach seems to involve the ‘will they or won’t they‘ aspect of Iris and Barry‘s relationship and how it could turn from familial bonds to steamy romance. Comic book readers know the ultimate fate of Iris/Barry, but the show will take quite a while to get there. It will get even more complicated when Eddie Thawne sets his sights on Iris, making a rather interesting love triangle. What do you think about the new featurette?

After a particle accelerator causes a freak storm, CSI Investigator Barry Allen is struck by lightning and falls into a coma. Months later he awakens with the power of super speed, granting him the ability to move through Central City like an unseen guardian angel. Though initially excited by his newfound powers, Barry is shocked to discover he is not the only “meta-human” who was created in the wake of the accelerator explosion — and not everyone is using their new powers for good. Barry partners with S.T.A.R. Labs and dedicates his life to protect the innocent. For now, only a few close friends and associates know that Barry is literally the fastest man alive, but it won’t be long before the world learns what Barry Allen has become…The Flash.

gothamThe pilot episode of Fox‘s pre-Batman Batman series, Gotham, has been screened a few times the last couple of weeks and the buzz is pretty positive. Fans and critics alike are pleased with what they’ve seen, and the wait for the premiere this fall has gotten harder with each new Tweet. The good thing about these screenings is that the cast and crew take part in big interviews afterwards. Some interesting information from showrunner Bruno Heller and director Danny Cannon have popped up revealing how the show will introduce top-tier villains like The Joker and even Mr. Freeze. On the other side of the coin, Harvey Bullock actor Donal Logue talked a little bit about his research and what comics he used before filming the pilot.

Talking with MoviePilot.com about their approach to the pilot, Heller and Cannon dove right into the deep end and discussed how they’re going about introducing some of Batman‘s most notorious foes. We know the likes of Catwoman, Riddler, Penguin and Poison Ivy will pop up in the first episode, but a lot more will soon follow. Heller says that they’re not shying away from the source material when it comes to introducing gritty and grounded takes on old favorites. He said, “The beauty of these characters is that everyone knows and loves them. It would be foolish not to embrace both the comic book aspect of it and the psychologically dark aspect of it, the funny aspect of it.” When you think of comic book aspects, psychologically dark aspects, and humor, you immediately thinjokerk of The Joker. The duo have said the Clown Prince of Crime will pop up sooner or later, but they told the site how they’re approaching the big introduction:

Bruno: I would say he [The Joker] is, for everyone involved to a degree because it’s about the villains, he’s the crown jewel in the villains’ crown. So we’re going to be very careful and thoughtful about how we roll that character out.
Danny: We have the luxury in nobody’s ever really delved way back. The amount of thought and time we’ve been allowed to give that is terrific because when we finally do reveal the “real” joker, and that’s a tip, it will be very thought out and worth the wait.
It is daunting but the way to take it on is not to go, “Here it is” but “Here it might be. Wait, it’s not that. It’s something else. Wait, it’s not even that.” I think that is the greatest tribute to the Joker, the fact that you may think it’s one thing, it ends up being something else because that guy, I think should never be able to be figured out.

One thing fans feared was that the show would try to present a definitive origin for Joker. The clown has had many origin stories, but none have really stuck. It seems that’s the approach Gotham will use. We could see a failed comedian, a mob enforcer, and a leader of a gang that wears red hoods, but it sounds like we’ll never know who is really behind the make-up.

freezeSpeaking of villain introductions, Cannon was asked if there were any of Batman‘s rogues he would like to give an episode or two. The director immediately brought up Mr. Freeze. He is easily Batman‘s coolest villain, so it makes sense they would want to use him on the show. Cannon mentioned that he has even pitched the idea to Heller:

I have a big pitch for Bruno of doing Mr. Freeze, the origin story of Mr. Freeze. I’m very excited about that one.
[When asked if there has ever been a 'legitimate,' grounded origin for Freeze] No. So, we’re wide open on that one. The support from DC has been wonderful. Geoff Johns has been a really great person to work with because he knows everything, but he also empowers everybody to go, “Hey man, that’s wide open. Go, go, go.” He really empowers us.

While the showrunners offered some good insights, Donal Logue confirmed something we all expected in an interview today with CBR. The man who will bring Harvey Bullock to life mentioned that he paid special attention to the Gotham Central comics while working on his version of Bullock. When asked about his research going into the series and whether it involved comics or just the scripts he was given, the actor said:

Both, but there’s a lot of [comics] — there’s “Gotham Central,” there’s just a lot of interesting literature where Bullock is a good guy. Bullock is also kind of a dirty [character] — he saves the day, but he makes some mistakes. I think that’s kind of what we’re going to see over the course of this long form when we get into “Gotham.”

GOTHAM-Harvey-Bullock__140320162617Logue went on to say that we’ll see Gotham follow the characters home, meaning we may see Bullock‘s love of classic film sometime during the series. That’s one of the thing the actor loves about the series, but he expanded on what he’s really excited about while talking about the characters and the fantastic actors that will breathe life into them:

What I love the most about “Gotham” is that I have a sense of what they’re doing, but I kind of see it when I’m doing my little piece of it. So to sit back and watch it all revealed is eye-opening to me, and to see what other people are doing, who I’m not doing the scenes with, to see how they’re taking their parts and running with it. I’m very excited, because “Gotham,” more than almost any other show I’ve been in, I think, has the possibilities of all these unopened doors we have yet to explore, or to see what Sean’s [Pertwee] going to do with Alfred or all these other great actors. Robin Ward Taylor — I’m a huge fan. I can’t wait to see when the new bad guys and the new villains are starting to go — I want to see where Cory [Michael Smith] goes with E. Nygma. So I’m excited!

Logue talks about Robin Lord Taylor in each and every interview, so it sounds like we’re in for a real treat when it comes to young Oswald Cobblepot. We’ll just have to wait a few months and see what all of the fuss is about. What do you think about the showrunner, the director, and Logue‘s comments? Are you interested to see how the world of Gotham is created before Batman hits the scene?

horned-rimmed-glassesLooking back at Heroes is one of the most frustrating things ever. The NBC series started off with a big and offered up potential in spades. Great story, great actors, cool characters. It had it all. Then it went south. Fast. It’s almost as if they didn’t expect the series to be a hit and when it became popular and they panicked and rushed a story line that got so outlandish and silly that ratings plummeted. Quite possibly one of the biggest television blunders in recent years.

Earlier this year, it was announced that the series’ creator, Tim Kring, would be revisiting the world of Heroes by introducing a 13-episode, limited run series called Heroes Reborn. The sort-of reboot would replicate the basics of the first season of the series, where ordinary folks would come to the realization they weren’t so ordinary. This element is what made the first season so great. Another thing that made the first season so great was the HRG character, who was later revealed as Noah Bennett, played by Jack Coleman. Good news is that Coleman will be reprising the popular character.

While specific story details are still scarce, you can expect Bennett to play the mysterious character of HRG that many enjoyed so much. At least, he’d better be. A few months back at the NBC upfront, it was suggested that several familiar faces were bound to stop in. However, Zachary Quinto, who played the series villain Sylas, and Milo Ventimiglia, who played Peter, the show’s main hero, are not expected as their busy schedules won’t allow it. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the case for Hayden Panettiere as well.Expect the series to run next summer.

lena-headey-stoneheartThe following article discusses events that have taken place in season four of HBO’s Game of Thrones as well as the books that the hit television series is based on. There are major spoilers involved herein. You’ve been warned!

If your favorite character is still alive on Game of Thrones, congratulations are in order! Last night’s season finale featured numerous deaths; some expected, some not. The number of characters that started the series is quickly dwindling and it is very apparent that all bets are off when it comes to survival. The past two seasons have been particularly brutal, with the two weddings, the death of a viper, a hound and a whole bunch of crows. But, for some fans, there was one thing missing from last night’s season four finale. Those who have read the books have been expecting the arrival of the deadly character known as Lady Stoneheart, who many will recognize as a revived Catelyn Stark, who is out for revenge for the events that occurred at the Red Wedding. However, this character was no where to be found. This came as a surprise to many. Especially after Lena Headey dropped a hint via her Instagram account; just as she did prior to the revealing of Oberyn‘s fatal battle.

So what happened? Where is this deadly character? In a recent chat with the season four final director Alex Graves, the story arc never really came up and was never really considered for the most recent season. OUTRAGE! Here’s how the conversation went down, check it out.

Vulture: Lena Headey led us to believe that we’d be seeing Lady Stoneheart at the end of this season.
Graves: Oh, really?
Vulture: Yeah, she Instagrammed a picture of a heart made of stones. How did the decision not to include her (yet?) get made?
Graves: Well, she was never going to be a part of it. I know it caught on on the internet, and people really started to believe it. I think the bottom line is that there was so much going on, at least from where I stood, that it wasn’t something to get into because, you know, when you get into taking Michelle Fairley, one of the greatest actresses around, and making her a zombie who doesn’t speak and goes around killing people, what’s the best way to integrate that into the show? I don’t think there was room for it this season. I don’t know what they’re going to do about it, because it is certainly something people attached to. I was attached to it because I established Thoros of Myr and Beric Dondarrion last year in the story to rejuvenate her. I have no idea what they plan to do about that because honestly, it just wasn’t talked about. It wasn’t on the radar.
tumblr_mvn6tubGc41sh566ao1_1280Vulture: It never came up?
Graves: It didn’t come up in season four. I asked it last year in season three, when I was doing the Beric scenes. They said, “Oh, yeah, you know, that’s a whole thing that we’re just not sure what we’re going to do about.” That was the conversation.
Vulture: You’ve read the books, right? I haven’t, but according to friends and colleagues who have, Lady Stoneheart does become important later on. Can you see how they might work her in later?
Graves: From what I know of the books, it’s like, Okay, what’s she really there for? Because I think she goes around — and it’s vague to me because I haven’t had to direct it, so I haven’t looked at this in detail — but essentially she’s a reaction to the Red Wedding. Part of the reason I think people got so wound up with her coming back, I think, was because of the emotional toll of the Red Wedding, which I totally get. Like, Bring her back and have her kill some people! Joffrey’s death was meant to play to that need a little bit. And also Tywin’s.

Well, that’s certainly interesting. Have they replaced Lady Stoneheart with the death of Joffery and his grandfather Tywin? Maybe I’m reading too much into this, but it almost seems like they currently have no plans to include the character at all. I really hope that I’m wrong, as she plays such an integral part in the retribution of the entire Stark family. I get that they don’t want to take an incredible actress and essentially tape her mouth shut, but being that she is such a great actress, I’d like to think that Michelle Fairly would make the best of it and turn in a great performance.

Hopefully Graves is just playing coy and the character will show up next season to wreak havoc on the seven kingdoms. After all, the one thing that Game of Thrones needs more of is death. Am I right? What are your thoughts on this? Has Stoneheart been brushed aside and forgotten or will she show up in the (hopefully) near future? Sound off below.

You can see Flash going fast and the dynamic duo of Carlod Valdes (Cisco Ramon aka Vibe) and Danielle Panabaker (Caitlin Snowbelow. The impressive 5-minute trailer released a few months ago offered up a good look at the new show, but these short featurettes offer up a clip or two that really gives us a good idea at what’s in store come this fall. What do you think about the new featurettes? Are you ready for the pilot?

After a particle accelerator causes a freak storm, CSI Investigator Barry Allen is struck by lightning and falls into a coma. Months later he awakens with the power of super speed, granting him the ability to move through Central City like an unseen guardian angel. Though initially excited by his newfound powers, Barry is shocked to discover he is not the only “meta-human” who was created in the wake of the accelerator explosion — and not everyone is using their new powers for good. Barry partners with S.T.A.R. Labs and dedicates his life to protect the innocent. For now, only a few close friends and associates know that Barry is literally the fastest man alive, but it won’t be long before the world learns what Barry Allen has become…The Flash.

gothamDC has several brand new shows coming up this fall, but one of the most talked about and highly anticipated is Fox‘s Batman prequel series that puts the spotlight on a young Jim Gordon. Gotham has an impressive cast lined up and the first trailer has racked up nearly 8 million views since being released a little less than a month ago. Ben McKenzie has the weigh of the world (or at least all of Gotham City) on his shoulders as the idealistic, fresh-faced recruit at the GCPD. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Southland actor talked about Gordon‘s moral idealism and how the show has to walk a fine line to keep from making its main man naive.

gordonAfter talking about how he became involved with the series (thanks in part to his previous relationship with showrunner Bruno Heller), McKenzie was asked what excited him most about bringing a new version of Jim Gordon to the small screen. The actor says part of the fun is playing a truly good man:

He’s a truly honest man. The last honest man in a city full of crooked people. It’s very tricky nowadays to play a true, honest-to-goodness hero. Everybody is so cynical of people’s intentions. What’s interesting about him is he comes into this city that he hasn’t lived in for two decades, since he was a kid, and has fresh eyes to a world he doesn’t actually know. He thinks he knows it, and his journey will be to figure out how to make it better both for Gotham and himself without completely [losing] the moral standing that he has. He’s not an anti-hero, he’s a true hero — but he will have to compromise.
…This is not a Batman-from-the-’50s kind of show, with moral duality in black and white. In this world, everybody lives in the grey. Everybody is on the take. Everybody is compromised. There is no way he’ll emerge unscathed from that. How does he hold onto the thread of his mortality while getting things done?

Bringing a true, honest, and good character into a corrupt setting is hard to pull off a lot of times. It either works or the person comes off as being ridiculously naive. McKenzie acknowledges that problem and says that he thinks they walking that line in a way that will really work for the series without making Gordon seem like too much of a greenhorn. He explained:

The thing I run into here is that — there’s nothing wrong with having a moral center, and it sets [Gordon] apart for the rest of the people in this world. And that’s an incredibly compelling concept. At the same time, for audiences, that moral centeredness can come across as naivete unless the character is written to be as smart as everybody else in the room, if not smarter. It’s sort of that noir-ish thing — Phillip Marlow is going to stumble, and he’s not going to know what the criminals know. But he’s as smart as they are, if not smarter, and so he’s going to figure it out as he goes along. So you have to juggle those balls without having the character go, “I can’t believe everybody is corrupt! What are the odds?” So that’s been an ongoing conversation. The good news is Bruno and [director Danny Cannon] are fully on board with that take on the character.

You can read a lot more from the actor about his love of Batman and how his first meeting with Geoff Johns went at the source link below. Gotham will be airing later this year, but it’s already getting a lot of positive buzz from people in the know. With it already getting a series order, hopefully we start seeing some more trailers or clips in the coming months. What do you think about McKenzie‘s comments?

father gabrielLast month it was announced that another The Wire alum, Seth Gilliam, would be joining the cast of The Walking Dead for the upcoming fifth season. When the announcement was originally made Gilliam was said to be playing a character named Michael, a friendly guy with “a puckish demeanor who also has a haunted side.” Many believed that the listing was a dummy name and description. The popular theory was that the actor would be playing Father Gabriel Stokes. While that was just a theory, it turns out it was actually one of the few internet conspiracies that turn out to be true. A set photo of Mr. Gilliam (via ComicBook.Com and Twitter) has popped up and seemingly confirms everything.

Gilliam was spotted on set in a priest’s collar. Walking Dead readers will recognize the costume as that of Father Gabriel Stokes, the one and only African-American priest in Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard‘s series. While the show has liked to combine a few smaller characters and remix their storylines in the past, it seems like a safe bet Gilliam will be playing a version of the popular comic book character. Father Gabriel met up with Rick and his crew during events that have happened in the fourth season of the show. In the comics Father Gabriel lives alone, holed up in his church. Rick and company come across the preacher who is racked with guilt because he turned away members of his flock from seeking sanctuary within. He joins up with the survivors and goes on a journey of redemption of sorts. He hasn’t been seen lately in the comics, but Kirkman has teased a larger role on the horizon in a recent Letters Hack reply. I guess Gabriel coming to the show will make him popular in the comics again. What do you think?

kingpinHere’s some news that should excite Daredevil fans- the upcoming Netflix series has cast its villain. Marvel.Com is reporting that Law & Order: Criminal Intent star Vincent D’Onofrio has been tapped to play Wilson Fisk opposite Charlie Cox‘s Man Without Fear, Matt Murdock aka Daredevil. Besides Bullseye, Kingpin is one of Daredevil‘s most notorious foes. The addition of the Kingpin of Crime promises big things are in store for the 13 episode series.

The site describes Fisk as “a powerful businessman whose interests in the future of Hell’s Kitchen will bring him into conflict with the blind attorney Matt Murdock and his alter ego Daredevil.” With the two biggest roles now filled, work is really gearing up for filming to begin next month with the premiere taking place sometime in 2015.

D’Onofrio is an interesting choice to bring the villainous Mr. Fisk to the small screen, but he certainly has the gravitas and presence required for such an iconic character. Jeph Loeb agrees, saying “We’re incredibly proud to have an actor with the gravitas and versatility of Vincent joining ‘Marvel’s Daredevil’ in such an integral role. Wilson Fisk is an iconic villain whose cunning and power make him the dangerous equal of our hero.“The actor will have some very big shoes to fill considering Michael Clarke Duncan stole the show as the villain in the Daredevil movie. While Duncan‘s Kingpin changed things up from the comics, it was generally well received and one of the highlights of the otherwise disappointing film. We’ll just have to wait and see if D’Onofrio wears the white jacket and carries the diamond tipped cane like we’re used to seeing in the cartoons and comics. What do you think about the casting?

Marvel’s Daredevil follows the journey of Matt Murdock, who was blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, now fighting against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City.
