guardians bannerWith Guardians Of The Galaxy getting closer and closer to its August 1st release, Marvel has started their media blitz for James Gunn‘s cosmic adventure. A new extended TV spot has been released along with a special featurette looking at the team and how they come together have been released on the official Marvel YouTube page. Gunn has also been actively promoting the film on his social media pages, offering a new look at Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser and a few words about how pivotal his brother Sean Gunn was during filming. You can read on for all of that and more!

You can check out the extended TV spot and the featurette titled Definitive Anti-Hero below. Before that though, you can see a picture director James Gunn shared on his Facebook page showing his brother Sean doing some work as Rocket Raccoon during filming. Along with the pic, Gunn explained what exactly his brother did to help him out and what role he’ll actually be playing in the film:

Working with my brother Sean Gunn on Guardians of the Galaxy. This photo is from Sci-Fi magazine which features a great article on how we work together and what Sean contributed to the character of Rocket and to the movie as a whole. It also reveals that, in addition to being the onset Rocket, and using a lot of his body and facial work in the character, he was also the onset Thanos, as well as playing the role of Kraglin, Yondu Udonta’s First Mate in the Ravagers, and Peter Quill’s lifelong frenemy. Few things in my career give me more creative pleasure than working with my brother.

The director also shared the lovely pic of Ronan you see below on his Twitter page earlier today. He had an interesting exchange with Nathan Fillion as well. What do you think about the latest goings on in the world of the Guardians? The film stars Chris Pratt as Peter Quill, Zoe Saldana as Gamor, Dave Batista as Drax the Destroyer, Vin Diesel as Groot, and Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon.

Whether you know him as the beloved Cairo-connection friend-in-need Sallah from the Indiana Jones movies, or as the lovable yet gruff heroic dwarf Gimli in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings Trilogy, or even more uniquely in his various roles in the Wing Commander game and animated series, he has been definitely established as one of the most iconic character actors of the last near 35 years.  Yes, we are talking Mr. John Rhys-Davies!

JRD1

John Rhys-Davies starting off his time his time talking with the crowd on a good couple notes of interest and on his roles. (l-C-R)

John Rhys-Davies took to the stage Friday 12 pm noontime on June 6th of the Phoenix ComiCon. He immediately began on a unique discussion, a topic of much concern to him involving the epidemic of today’s developing youth and drug addictions and abuse, both narcotic illicit and prescription and the mental issues they inflict upon themselves. Then came the fun stuff where he entertained the audience with witty anecdotes on his profession and roles, moving onto audience Q n A discussion on his roles, mostly focusing on the roles of Gimli and Sallah the same there.

Comic Book Therapy had the opportunity to ask Mr. Rhys-Davies on he engaged himself and to what degree with some of the more physical aspects to these two biggest known roles himself. Reply? An amusing one that resulted in a couple of hilarious anecdotes with difficulties on the set in not wanting to engage in the more dangerous stunts of some of his past roles(rightfully so, considering the damage and injury the stunt doubles took for them).

JRD

Continuing with actively engaging the audience with his work on the roles and adding some dramatic wit and flair the same. (L-C-R).

Mr. Davies continued to reflect more insights into his work that settled mainly on these two most famous roles as the Q n A urged forward and even reflected on how his children are a great inspiration to his life the same.  Catch the video segment below for a look at this event.

All ending to it,  the panel showed the makings of what a remarkable and legendary actor of strong intellect and great wit John Rhys-Davies is and we all at the con look forward to having him back at PCC 2014 or other major convention circuits in the future.

transformersParamount Pictures and the official YouTube page for director Michael Bay‘s latest Transformers film, Transformers: Age of Extinction, have released three brand new TV spots for the upcoming film. We’ve seen some big, signature Michael Bay shots in the trailers that have been previously released, but the TV spots manage to pack in quite a lot of the director’s special summer blockbuster moves in 30-seconds or less. Kelsey Grammer also gets featured a little more prominently this time around as well. Age of Extinction begins June 27th and stars Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Li Bingbing, Sophia Myles, T.J. Miller, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor, and Titus Welliver.

The film begins after an epic battle that left a great city torn, but with the world saved. As humanity picks up the pieces, a shadowy group reveals itself in an attempt to control the direction of history… while an ancient, powerful new menace sets Earth in its crosshairs. With help from a new cast of humans, Optimus Prime (voiced by Peter Cullen) and the Autobots rise to meet their most fearsome challenge yet. In an incredible adventure, they are swept up in a war of good and evil, ultimately leading to a climactic battle across the world.

Beast (Nicholas Hoult) gets his own video featuring new footage and another look at Hank McCoy Hulking…or rather Beasting out and going from his human form to the blue fur covered mutant we all know and love. Blink (Fan Bingbing) also gets in on the action. We’ve seen the mutant teleporter teased in the various trailers and TV spots, but now we get a full minute dedicated to the character. guardians of the galaxyWe’re all waiting as patiently as we possibly can for the second Guardians of the Galaxy trailer, which director James Gunn said should be upon us before long, but the occasional new still getting released helps make the wait a little easier. Today two new images of Chris Pratt as Marvel‘s newest kind-of-a-hero, Peter “Star-Lord” Quill, have hit and they give us a fantastic look at the rogue’s helmet and his rather dashing red leather jacket.

Guard The Galaxy got hold of the two snazzy pics you see below of Star-Lord from the latest issue of Geek Magazine. The magazine features an interview with Gunn as well as the two shots of the helmeted Star-Lord. No interview snippets have hit (other than those visible on the scans), but you can admire Star-Lord in all of his glory in the two new images. Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Batista as Drax the Destroyer, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon, and Vin Diesel as Groot. Guardians will take over theaters August 1st. What do you think about the new stills?

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand – with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

tmntA second full-length trailer for director Jonathan Liebesman and producer Michael Bay‘s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was rather stealthily released today. Usually movie trailers are announced weeks in advanced with much fanfare counting down the days. The fact the second trailers for the TMNT reboot was just released on the Facebook page for the Nickelodeon show is pretty cool. It’s just boom! Here you go. And the trailer does indeed bring the noise.

The new trailer shows off all for Turtles, a shadowy look at a massive Shredder, and even Splinter swinging a sword. While a TV spot gave us our first glimpse at all four cool dudes, this trailer really shows off the new designs for Donatello, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Leonardo. While we still have to wait for a full Splinter reveal, the weapon-wielding and skateboarding action should be enough to hold you over for now. What do you think about the second big trailer?

The city needs heroes. Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April O’Neil (Megan Fox) & her wise-cracking cameraman Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett) to save the city and unravel Shredder’s diabolical plan. The popular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise has captivated audiences of all ages for decades, into the 21st century.

Star-Wars-VII_placeholder-bannerStar Wars news has been a little bit few and far between this past couple of week. Mainly that has to do to JJ Abrams and his super secret way of handling things. However, today is the first scheduled table read for Episode VII, and many people around Hollywood say it’s only a matter of time before we get an offical confirmation on the cast.

Oscar IsaacIt was reported a while back that Girls star Adam Driver and Attack Of The Block star John Boyega have joined the newest continuation of the Star Wars mythology. But another new name is being thrown out there as well in the form of Inside Llewyn Davis actor Oscar Issac. What their roles in the upcoming new trilogy has been shrouded in mystery. There has been mention that Driver will be a villain in the new trilogy though.

han-solo-crucibleThe biggest news from the Deadline report doesn’t have to do with any new casting at all. As a matter of fact it has to do with one of the actors from the original trilogy who most thought would never reprise their roll. Harrison Ford is said to have not only a major part to play in the upcoming movie, but in the entire new trilogy. Ford has long been pretty staunch that he had little interest in returning to the Star Wars franchise, but Disney and LucasFilm must have a pretty satisfying arc for Han Solo to get him to sign back on for such a major part.

Once again, since it’s JJ Abrams all information around the new Star Wars movies are under pretty heavy lock and key. It has been long rumored that joining Ford will be his cohorts from the first set of films, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher. Although Disney has not officially confirmed any one for the film, other than Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca. While details are scarce, we will keep you up to date on all things Star Wars as they drop here at Comic Book Therapy.

godzillaWe’ve heard Godzilla roar in pretty much every trailer and TV spot for the film, but now some new behind the scenes featurettes have been released and we get to see how director Gareth Edwards and his crew recreated the classic screech from the King of Monsters. The second video is Edwards explaining how the giant beastie’s roar was made for the reboot. You can check both out below and you can see Godzilla in his full glory when he stomps into theaters May 16th. What do you think about the new videos?

In Summer 2014, the world’s most revered monster is reborn as Warner Bros. The trailers and TV spots have shown off the giant beastie’s snout letting loose with a mighty roar, but the new stills lets us take a peek at Godzilla’s body. We thought the marketing was holding back the full reveal for the movie, but it seems like they’re willing to give us a decent glimpse of the full monty before the film stomps into theaters May 16th. What do you think about the pics of Godzilla in all his glory?

In Summer 2014, the world’s most revered monster is reborn as Warner Bros. Gareth Edwards directs “Godzilla,” which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson (“Kick-Ass”), Oscar® nominee Ken Watanabe (“The Last Samurai,” “Inception”), Elizabeth Olsen (“Martha Marcy May Marlene”), Oscar® winner Juliette Binoche (“The English Patient,” “Cosmopolis”), and Sally Hawkins (“Blue Jasmine”), with Oscar® nominee David Strathairn (“Good Night, and Good Luck.,” “The Bourne Legacy”) and Bryan Cranston (“Argo,” TV’s “Breaking Bad”).

rogueOne of the things X-Men fans have been following closely about the upcoming X-Men inbetweequel, Days of Future Past, is just how Anna Paquin’s Rogue will play into things. Rogue was said to have a sizable role in things, then director Bryan Singer made it sound like Rogue had been completely cut from the film. Then yesterday news hit that the power-absorbing mutant would have a small cameo. Well now we know exactly what small, but pivotal, role Paquin will play into the narrative. On top of that, some new featurettes and an international poster have hit as well. Spoiler obviously follow.

Vulture has learned the details of Paquin’s cameo in Days of Future Past. As we know, Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page) will send Wolverine’s mind back into his younger body. Kitty has to stay in constant contact with Wolverine’s future body to keep the connection strong. According to the site, Kitty becomes injured at some point in the film and her hold on Wolverine becomes strained. Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and Magneto (Ian McKellen) know they need someone to lend a hand. The only one with the appropriate power set is Rogue, but she’s being held in the Xavier Institute, now converted to a prison camp by Trask Industries. The site goes on to explain the specifics and why Rogue’s big scene was cut:

Unfortunately, Rogue is being held prisoner at Xavier Mansion, which has been transformed into a Sentinel-guarded military base, and the mission to find and rescue her — an expensive, lengthy sequence that involves Professor X, Magneto, and Iceman (Shawn Ashmore) — was sliced from the film in postproduction after Fox executives worried it would pad the running time to over two and a half hours. Rogue is still brought in briefly to absorb Kitty’s power and tend to Wolverine, but the machinations to get her there will now happen offscreen.

The site also says there are three additional mutant cameos we should be on the lookout for, though they won’t reveal who the characters are. They say to “even hint at their identities, though, would reveal a major spoiler.” There has been a lot of speculation that Kelsey Grammer would make a return appearance as Beast, which seems likely, so that leaves two unknown mutants.

Finally, Norton by Symantec has released five promo featurettes for the film as part of their partnership with 20th Century Fox. The videos feature snippets of new footage as well as commentary from most of the cast. You can check those out bellow as well as a new German poster for the film. Days of Future Past hit theaters May 23rd. What do you think about the latest goings on in the X-Men universe?

days of future pastThe final trailer for Bryan Singer‘s X-Men inbetweequel, Days of Future Past, was supposed to air on Conan O’Brien’s show tonight, but the official YouTube page for the X-movies let it slip a few minutes early. The third (and reportedly final) trailer for the film clocks it at nearly 3 minutes and it features a ton of new footage as well as a lot of plot. Things are dramatic, tense, and epic as Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) explains to young Prof. Xavier (James McAvoy) why he has been sent back to the past to right some wrongs in the hope of saving mankind, and mutankind alike. There is plenty of action for the other members of the cast as well, with Nicholas Hoult‘s Hank “Beat” McCoy scoring a lot of trailer time. You can see it all for yourself below. What do you think about the final trailer? Are you glad to see a little Sentinel action?

guardians of the galaxy bannerWhile we all await the second full-length trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy, Entertainment Weekly has tried to offer us an entree before the big meal. Their Summer Movie Preview issue featured some new stills from Marvel‘s first cosmic outing as well as a few very interesting words from director James Gunn.

In the magazine Gunn confirms that Thanos, the Mad Titan himself, will be a motion-capture character he describes as the “head of the snake.” While he wouldn’t say who is doing the mo-cap or voice of Thanos, he does tease the character’s actions, saying only “Thanos slaughtered [Gamora's] family and Nebula’s, then raised them together as siblings. They were bio engineered to become living weapons, so he’s really good at killing people.” Speaking about the film’s leading man, Chris Pratt, Gunn teased Star-Lord‘s upbringing. He says, “he was abducted from Earth (Missouri) at age 8 and raised in a group of thieves and smuggles called the Ravagers. He’s good with the ladies and a little bit of a dick and very lucky.” Finally, Gunn dropped the biggest teaser of all when it comes to how Guardians connects back up with the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. Giving no other explanation, Gunn stated “We’re definietly connected to Avengers 3.” We can probably guess that has a lot to do with Thanos and his overarching plans. We’ll just have to wait and see though. (Quotes via CBM and Guard the Galaxy).

Gunn himself Tweeted out a few of the stills from the magazine. They show off a great group shot of the Guardians in their prison garb, Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana looking at the mysterious orb, and one of Star-Lord running through a desert-like wasteland. Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt as Peter “Star-Lord” Quill, Zoe Saldana as the deadly Gamora, Dave Batista as Drax the Destroyer, Vin Diesel as Groot, and Bradley Cooper as the gun-totting Rocket Raccoon. The James Gunn directed film will blast into theaters August 1, 2014. What do you think about the new stills?

Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon; Groot, a tree-like humanoid; the deadly and enigmatic Gamora; and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) is an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and an Avenger, so many thought he would be interested in all the goings on regarding The Winter Soldier and his attacks. Feige says we will get an explanation of why he wasn’t there:

We will discover, later, the answers to that question. But it really came down to how many players can you have on the field at this time? We really wanted to bring in Falcon, we really wanted to team [Captain America] up with Black Widow, we really wanted Fury to have more of a part than he’s ever had in any of the other movies before. We wanted, ever so briefly, to introduce Sharon Carter. And we had a fun place for Maria Hill to be involved. So we didn’t want to just have, “Hey, I’m Hawkeye! Hey, I’m Iron Man!” We want to avoid the brief cameos of the week.

Following up on that, the Marvel Mastermind was asked if he was worried that the introduction of news characters in Age of Ultron meant that other characters would have to take a backseat when it come to getting into the action and how important their roles will be. Feige says that is a concern, but he thinks Joss Whedon has a great handle on things:

Well yes, not every character from every movie is going to be in Age of Ultron, for sure. But Joss [Whedon] is excited and, for the characters you haven’t seen since the first Avengers – like Hawkeye, like Hulk – there’s a reason for that, and that gets showcased quite prominently in Age of Ultron.
