The Neglected Nemeses: Darkseid
Looking back at Bryan Singer’s take on Superman, one of the glaring faux pas is the lack of Supes hitting things. I think he spent more time being hit than the opposite. One thing fans of the character know is that Superman needs to be hitting things…or people. How about we bring in a character that is ruthless, cold and brutal and would certainly provide for some thrilling action scenes for a film, as well as a character that has yet to be touched outside Warner Brother’s animated series and films?
The Neglected Nemeses: Harley Quinn
While Batman arguably has some of the best rogues out there, they are also some of the hardest to portray on the big screen in such a way that both does the character justice and makes them believable and relevant. Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy are perfect examples of that. In Batman & Robin, both [...]
The Neglected Nemeses: Deathstroke
One of the first names that pops up when asked which DC villain needs to be features in a film is Deathstroke, the rogue who has been one of the most popular for the Teen Titans. However, this assassin has also been on the side of “good” when needed. Many will tell you that he is the DC version of Deadpool, or vice-versa, and it is hard to dispute the similarities. In the long run, I think that Deathstroke is a baddie that should be taken a bit more seriously than his Marvel counterpart, as he is a man that has a purpose and nothing will get in his way.
The Neglected Nemeses: Black Tom Cassidy
In this installment of The Neglected Nemeses, we are headed back tot he Marvel Universe and the X-Men mythos, with a villain that is often over-looked as a substantial bad guy. The X-Men film franchise has been the topic of many debates, mostly due to its timeline and the use of random characters, rather than [...]
The Neglected Nemeses: Ares
In this installment of The Neglected Nemeses, we look at one of the biggest, baddest mo-fos that Wonder Woman has had to face. But, he has not always gone by this name, as during most of the Golden Age, Silver Age and Bronze age of comics, he went by the name of Mars, the name [...]
The Neglected Nemeses: Bizarro
When it was announced that DC Comics and Warner Brothers would be bringing new life into the Superman film franchise a few years back, rather than continuing the series Bryan Singer took over in 2006, one of the biggest wishes from fans was to have a more physical threat for the Man of Steel to [...]
The Neglected Nemeses: The Sentinels
Let’s rewind about 20 years to when the always popular X-Men cartoon premiered. The first two episodes of that series (save for the pilot where Wolverine had an Australian accent) were devoted to the introduction of the Sentinels, who we first see busting into a shopping mall, trying to capture Jubilee. But their sheer power and diligence [...]
The Neglected Nemeses: Doctor Doom
Every once in a while, I need to resurrect a baddie that has already been featured in a film, mostly due to the fact that the first interpretation of the character was so bad, they need to be given a second chance just to show off what their true character. Case in point: Doctor Doom.
The Neglected Nemeses: Omega Red
Back to the world of Marvel for the latest installment of The Neglected Nemeses. This time, we take a look at one of Wolverine’s most dangerous foes in Omega Red, the relentless Russian murderer who has no problem sucking the life out of anyone in his way in order to keep himself alive. His heightened [...]
The Neglected Nemeses: Brainiac
When Zack Snyder first came on board to direct Man of Steel, one of the first baddies to be sdiscussed for the film was Brainiac. This isn’t the first time the villain has been discussed to oppose Superman in a film, as he was a possibility for Superman III, as well as the scrapped Superman Lives and Superman [...]
The Neglected Nemeses: The Wrecking Crew
You kids up for a bit of destruction? At the request of Mr. Tittie Nashville, I’ll be highlighting a group of super villains that have posed a threat to not only the Avengers, but to Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Fist, Hercules and of course their number one foe- Thor. This will actually mark the first [...]
The Neglected Nemeses: Ultron
Joss Whedon’s Avengers has come and gone and easily became one of the most successful films of all time. Aside from that little tid bit, Marvel Studios and Disney pulled off a huge feat in creating the first film universe in which multiple films lead into one culminating movie. But some fans will still say that something [...]
The Neglected Nemeses: The Ventriloquist & Scarface
With Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy now finished, the future of the character and his place in the DC Comic film world is up for debate and has been discussed greatly. As it stands now, WB and DC plan on introducing a new version of the character in their (supposed) upcoming Justice League film that is set to [...]
The Neglected Nemeses: Electro
Recently, we learned that the villain Electro was rumored to be the route that director Marc Webb and writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman were headed for the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man sequel. What better way to introduce my latest installment of The Neglected Nemeses? Some feel Electro is a secondary villain, but if you really look at the [...]
The Neglected Nemeses: Mister Sinister
When fans discuss villains that have been left out of comic book movies, there are always a select few that tend to pop up in the discussions: Sentinels from the X-Men, Kraven from Spider-Man, Brainiac from Superman, just to name a few (On a side note, I assure you those and many others will be [...]
The Neglected Nemeses: Solomon Grundy
For those of you that know me, then you know I am on a mission to make this happen. But I’m getting ahead of myself. A few weeks ago, I started a new editorial series here on Comic Book Therapy called The Neglected Nemeses in which I take a look at some of the rogues of [...]
The Neglected Nemeses: The Shade
Well hello there. Let me start things off by introducing myself to the world of Comic Book Therapy. The name is Josh Johnson, a/k/a ecksmanfan. I’m a relative newcomer to the world of comic books, especially compared to some of the other folks on the site, but that doesn’t mean I’m any less passionate about [...]
