Captain America: The Winter Soldier May Have Found Its Female Lead

sharonWe’ve had some new casting announcements as well as confirmation on returning actors, but one part of the Captain America sequel many were still waiting to hear word on was casting of a female lead. Today it seems the sequel has found its girl in the form of Emily VanCamp according to Deadline.

The site reports that Marvel is in talks to close the deal with VanCamp. The actress has been seen on the small screen in ABC’s Revenge and WB’s Everwood and Brothers and Sisters. The actress will join Chris Evans in the Russo brothers directed sequel set to hit theaters April, 2014. It looks like VanCamp will be Sharon Carter, although that isn’t official yet. Sharon Carter is also known as Agent 13, a secret agent and ex-field operative of S.H.I.E.L.D. She’s also the sometimes girlfriend of Captain America. The tricky bit is her relation to the first movie’s leading lady Peggy Carter. In the original comic book continuity she was the younger sister of Peggy, but that has since been retconned and she’s the niece of Cap’s first crush.

Regardless of who she’s playing or how they say she’s related to somebody, it’s nice to get the last big bit of casting for The Winter Soldier. The role has been connected to every big actress in Hollywood, but it looks like VanCamp beat them all to it. With the story out there now, it shouldn’t be too long before we hear more about it. Stay tuned to CBT for more. What do you think of the choice though? Do you think she’s Sharon?
