Bryan Singer Comments On The Chances Of Storm And Nightcrawler In Days Of Future Past
Bryan Singer has been out and about promoting his upcoming film Jack the Giant Slayer, but the conversations almost always turn to the upcoming X-Men: First Class sequel. Singer has obliged, doing double duty promoting Jack and Days of Future Past. The most recent comments concern the possibility of Storm and Nightcrawler coming back.
While again teasing the possibility of a fully CGI character for Days of Future Past, Singer touched on the possiblity of even more past cast members returning. We already have Hugh Jackman, Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen, Anna Paquin, Sean Ashmore, and Ellen Page. Singer said the characters aren’t in the movie as a simple gimmick:
I don’t want to say [who the protagonists are] yet, or talk about that yet, but I will say that every character has a very important function in the story. The story is designed and catered to the combined cast. It’s not just throwing in people to occupy the screen, occupy the billboards. The story ‘Days of Future Past,’ and our version of ‘Days of Future Past’ is geared very much toward the mass cast and all their relationships and all their foibles and their achievements.
When asked specifically about Halle Berry’s Storm, Singer remained coy. The director told MTV “I can’t say. I don’t know yet. And it’s not necessarily a deal making aspect at all. I want to make sure it’ll make sense. But I love working with her.” But things sounded a little more optimistic when the Huffington Post asked about the possibility of Alan Cumming coming back as Nightcrawler. The blue German made a big splash in X2, but was noticeably gone in the 3rd flick.
I don’t know. We’ll see. You know … we’ll see. [S]ometimes you don’t want to say “yes” or “no” to something that may not be a “yes” or a “no,” or anything. I haven’t decided yet, a few things. I’m still, you know — there are certain aspects of the script that I’m still toying with.
A lot of fans could take or leave Halle Berry coming back as Storm, sighting her as one of the weaker characters in the X-bunch, but Cumming’s Nightcrawler and Kelsey Grammer’s Beast are two returning players many fans have had their fingers crossed to hear announced. With Singer opening up to CGI characters, it is possible both big blue men could come back with a little less time in the make-up chair compared to their first outing. What do you think? Who do you hope to see that hasn’t been announced yet?
