Brace Yourselves SPIDER-MAN Movie Spin-Offs Are Coming
This isn’t the most surprising news, but it does confirm a lot of rumors we have been hearing for a good while. Sony Pictures Entertainment Co-Chairman Amy Pascal has hinted that the studio is looking at spinning off several characters in the Spider-Man universe into their own films in the near future.
The Wrap is reporting that Pascal is keen on giving some of Spidey‘s supporting villains and heroes their own movies once we get a little farther down the road with The Amazing Spider-Man movies. During an investors presentation earlier today Pascal said “We are going to access Marvel’s full world of Spider-Man characters, so be on the lookout for new heroes and villains.” Sony owns all the rights to Spider-Man‘s extended web of characters, so there is no shortage of potential movies they could make. Pascal commenting that it would be both heroes and villain opens up even more doors.
Josh Trank has been attached to a Venom movie for years, so that seems like it would be one of the top contenders for a spin-off movie. Black Cat could be another, going for that edgy anti-hero angle. Then you have Paul Giamatti as the Rhino, Jamie Foxx‘s Electro, and whoever ends up being Green Goblin to boot. The Spider-Man franchise has made over $3 billion worldwide for Sony, so it makes a lot of sense that they want to expand that line. With Amazing Spider-Man 3 and/or 4 setting up the Sinister Six, mixed with those rumors about Black Cat popping up soon, we’ll have to keep our eyes on Sony to see how they might set up some of these spin-offs. What do you think about the web-slinger’s friends and foes getting their own films?
