Bill Paxton Gets Recruited By AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.
Here’s some rather surprising news, Bill Paxton will be joining Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. for at least four episodes. TV Guide reports that Paxton will make his first appearance as Agent John Garrett on the show in late February or early March. Agent Garrett is one of two new characters that will be introduce as semi-regulars in the back half of season one. S.H.I.E.L.D. executive producer Jed Whedon said of Garrett, “We wanted to bring in a rough-and-tumble former cohort of Agent Coulson with a little bit of attitude and a cigar-smoking swagger.“
Paxton‘s Agent Garrett will come on the scene in a “very surprising way” as he works alongside Agents Ward and May. In the comic Elektra: Assassin, Garrett is turned into a cyborg to save his life after suffering an on-the-job injury. The agent also had a history of violence, a criminal record, and did some rather nasty things. That part will probably be left to the comics when the character makes his TV appearance, but Whedon says “when Garrett got his promotion to Level 7, he refused to sit behind a desk and doesn’t like the formalities of S.H.I.E.L.D. He’s going to help Coulson solve some mysteries and is not afraid to rig an explosive or two.“
Paxton is a pretty good ‘get’ for the series. He was last seen on TV in Big Love and 2012’s critically acclaimed Hatfields & McCoys series. While he’s only slatted to appear in four episodes, Paxton could well stick around a little longer. You can tell the series is trying to kick things up a notch and address some of the things that didn’t quite work in the first half of the season, and Paxton could be another much needed spark of energy. What do you think about Paxton joining up with S.H.I.E.L.D.?
