BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN Producer Talks Affleck And Gadot: Plus Superman And Batman Suit Details
It’s been a few days since we’ve heard any rumors, speculation, or legitimate information about Batman vs. Superman, so it’s only fitting today that we get a mix of all three. One of the producers of the upcoming Man of Steel sequel recently touched on the two big casting announcements for the film, and a few possible details about the two titular characters (though Batman vs. Superman isn’t the official title) have come to light.
Executive Producer Wesley Coller recently spoke with MLive (via ManOfSteelFanPage.Com) about Batman vs. Superman, the recent casting announcements for Batman and Wonder Woman, and choosing Michigan as a major location for the film. Coller has been involved with a few films with dedicated fanbases before, so the reaction to the Batfleck casting was entirely shocking to him:
Because we’ve historically done fan favorite fare – Watchmen, we remade Dawn of the Dead …I’ve developed a pretty good perspective on this. Anything you do that’s culturally significant, or any time you deal with an iconic character or story, you’re going to hear responses from every possible perspective. So nothing surprises me anymore. If anything, that gauges the relevance of a property or character, and it’s invigorating to know people care that much. It inspires you to make the coolest version of the movie that you can. Ben is the perfect fit for Zack’s vision for this story.
Batfleck was a perfect storm of internet outrage, but the casting of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman over relatively well in comparison. The actress doesn’t have a lot of films to her resume, so that was a double-edged sword and part of the reason for what negativity there was online. While Coller didn’t go into specifics, he did say that he was excited to work with Gadot and knows he’s daughter will love seeing Wonder Woman on the big screen:
(My daughter’s) favorite book is this little Wonder Woman flip book. It has the lasso, the invisible plane, the bracelets – every page has an image she’s just in awe with. And something that’s become a reality, being a dad with a new daughter, is that I have a special place in my heart for the idea of a strong, empowered female superhero being out there.… We’re super excited to have her in the film, it will be a ton of fun, but at the same time, we’ve got to stay focused on the film we’re working on now
Finally, Batman-on-Film adds a little to a recent report from CineMovie.TV. Batman vs. Superman costume designer Michael Wilkinson says he is hard at work creating Batman and Wonder Woman‘s costumes for the film, but he is doing some “tweaks” to Superman‘s suit as well. Says the designer, “We are now in the stage where we’re refining our designs with the last series of camera tests and doing our final tweaks in preparation for shooting,” says the designer.” The site adds their own interesting comments about what they’ve heard regarding Affleck‘s Batsuit:
When it comes to Batman, I suspect the “regular” Batsuit will be different from ones Christian Bale wore during Chris Nolan’s “Dark Knight Trilogy” — but it’s Batman, so how much can you really change it, you know? I’ve also been told that Affleck will wear some sort of armored Batsuit as well that will have “Batman Beyond capabilities” — take that for what you will.
If Bats and Superman really do come to blows, then the Caped Crusader will definitely need a heavy-duty suit even if he does have a piece of Kryptonite with him. With filming set to begin early next year, we may get a glimpse of Affleck‘s basic Batsuit before long. What do you think about Superman getting his suit tweaked? What do you hope Batman and Wonder Woman‘s duds look like?
