You may have already preordered the impressive Marvel Phase 1 Box Set on Blu Ray that comes in the SHIELD briefcase with glowing Tesseract, but you might want to check up with whoever you ordered it from. There was a report that the Rimowa company was going to sue Marvel and Disney for using their attache case for the DVD box set. It seems Marvel and Disney have responded to that threat.
Amazon has stopped taking preorders and has the set under review. Disney has removed the image of the case and all the goodies and files it contained from their site and is using a simple Avengers DVD placeholder image. The site’s description of the set has changed as well. Bleeding Cool pointed out that it went from “this exclusive replica of the iconic SHIELD briefcase…” to the “this collectible gift set” as you can see:
Immerse yourself in every aspect of Marvel’s elite Super Heroes with this limited-edition, 10-disc Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One Collection. Complete with glowing Tesseract, this collectible gift set includes stunning Blu-ray 3D™ and Blu-ray™ presentations of The Avengers; Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor, as well as Blu-ray™ versions of Iron Man; Iron Man 2 and The Incredible Hulk in exclusive collectible packaging.
Bleeding Cool also passed along a comment by a reader that Moviestop received an e-mail saying the release would not be on September 25. It seems the pending lawsuit has completely changed Disney/Marvel’s plans to release a pretty stunning box set of all the Phase 1 movies. Whether this can be worked out and some agreement allowing the release remains to be seen, but a delay is assured.
