Avengers 2 May Already Have A Release Date
Marvel and Disney made fanboys squeal earlier this week when it was officially announced that Joss Whedon would be returning to write and direct the Avengers as well as help with a little Marvel live-action TV show. Now it seems that there is a tentative release date and Marvel has commented on Whedon’s new deal.
We know the line-up of Marvel’s phase 2 movies. We have Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy shooting and coming out over the next few years. Marvel has to squeeze Avengers 2 in there somewhere, and it looks like it may be May 1, 2015 according to some of MTV’s “industry insiders.” This isn’t a big shock considering a 2015 sequel was talked about while the first one was making its press rounds. Here’s what the insiders had to say:
Marvel has a very set agenda of what they want to do, they are already kind of ahead of the game [on the sequel] because they’ve got the guy that did it before doing it again and something tells me Joss already has the template [for the film]. The beauty of ‘The Avengers’ is that you’ve got so many people in this that even during the shoot if someone has to do another film they can just focus on [other characters].
Now even the insiders claim that this can change depending on people’s schedules. With the astounding box office success of The Avengers, even if they miss the 2015 mark you can bet that it won’t be too far from that date. Marvel and Disney also commented briefly on just what Whedon’s deal with them includes. Marvel sent his official little statement to Hitfix:
Joss Whedon has signed an exclusive deal with Marvel Studios for film and television through the end of June 2015. As part of that deal, Whedon will write and direct Marvel’s The Avengers 2 as well as help develop a new live action series for Marvel Television at ABC. He will also contribute creatively to the next phase of Marvel’s cinematic universe.
And there you have it. The plans are being made and The Avengers is gearing up for a sequel. We still have the rest of the Phase Two films to look forward too, but this one is easily at the top of my list. What are your thoughts on all the recent Marvel movie developments?
