From Attacking The Block To Attacking The Klingons: Joe Cornish Being Eyed For STAR TREK 3
Ever since J.J. Abrams took his new directing job in a galaxy far, far away everyone has been wondering who would be sitting in the captain’s chair for Star Trek 3. A lot of names have been thrown out there as Abrams‘ successor to the new Star Trek universe, but now it seems Paramount may be closing in on someone.
Deadline reports that Paramount and Skydance Productions is “sweet on” Joe Cornish to direct the third film. Cornish made his directorial debut with Attack The Block, the 2011 movie starring Nick Frost and a group of youngsters who try to push back an alien invasion in their neighborhood. Cornish is also an accomplished writer, having worked on The Adventures of Tin Tin and Edgar Wright‘s Ant-Man. So while he only has one directorial effort under his belt, he’s not stranger to big budget films.
Cornish would be an interesting choice. Attack The Block was a great film, so there’s not much to worry about on that front. With the third film looking to be about the Klingons, judging from Into Darkness, it could be the most action-packed Trek of the bunch. Whoever steps up and takes over the franchise will have a lot to live up to. Again, this is all just rumor and speculation for now, but Paramount is wanting the movie to start filming by the summer of 2014 so we’ll probably hear a lot more fairly soon. What do you think about Cornish being the next Star Trek director? Do you hope he lands the job or do you have someone else in mind?
