ARROW EP On Last Night’s Mini FLASH Crossover; Synopsis For Episode 22 Reveals A Big Surprise

by

ciscoThere are just a few episodes left this season of Arrow, but there are plenty of big reveals yet to come. Last night’s episode saw Slade “Deathstroke” Wilson (Manu Bennett) escalate his war against Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Starling City, but there was also a small Flash crossover thanks to the appearance of Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes) and Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker) in the Starling City warehouse of S.T.A.R. Labs. Executive Producer Andre Kreisberg recently spoke about the mini crossover and how it shows what sort of things are in store for the upcoming series. The synopsis for episode 22 of Arrow, Streets of Fire, has been released as well. It reveals news of a rather surprising return appearance of a character.

Speaking with CBR about last night’s episode, Andre Kreisberg revealed why the decision to bring in two of Flash‘s supporting characters was made and how it shows what sort of things will be explored in that series:

We knew a lot of the fans had been looking forward to seeing a little bit of “The Flash” in this season, and we felt obliged to fulfill that promise. But then also for ourselves, it’s been one of the fun things of the show, especially early in the season, when we were constantly mentioning the particle accelerator. It was actually Keto Shimizu, one of our writers, when we were talking about the idea of the cure, who said, “What if S.T.A.R. Labs is the one who starts trying to figure out the cure?” and it became Cisco and Caitlin coming into the show. It just felt like a fun way to bring up Barry, remember where he’s at, and give a little taste of the show. Even Doctor Light’s gun — it’s not something we typically do on “Arrow,” it’s a little bit more sci-fi-y — but for us, it felt a little bit more like you got a glimpse into what kinds of things “The Flash” will be up against, more than it was coming into our world.

We pretty well knew Flash would be a lot more sci-fi than Arrow, but the inclusion of the Dr. Light Easter Egg gives us a better hint at what may be in store for the highly-anticipated series. With filming still going on, we’ll hopefully see and hear a lot more in the coming months.

barrowmanFinally, the official synopsis released for the penultimate episode of season 2 of Arrow has just been released. Streets of Fire will see the return of a character who only popped up once this season, but has had a huge presence during this season’s storyline (via GreenArrowTV):

MALCOLM MERLYN RETURNS — Oliver (Stephen Amell) rallies his team as Slade’s (Manu Bennett) soldiers attack the city.  Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) gets a call from S.T.A.R. Labs with game-changing news and Thea (Willa Holland) comes face-to-face with her father – Malcolm Merlyn (guest star John Barrowman).  Nick Copus directed the episode written by Jake Coburn & Ben Sokolowski (#222).

So Barrowman is finally back. Whether he’s there to talk to his daughter or cause a little trouble remains to be seen. Regardless, it will be nice to have Barrowman back. What do you think about the mini Flash crossover? Are you glad to hear that Malcolm is coming back?
