paul ruddNot only does the new year mean we’re closer to the premiere of Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy, it also means that Avengers: Age of Ultron and Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man begin filming. Marvel has a lot going on in 2014 and 2015, so there’s going to be plenty of news for the next several months. Before things really get rolling with Ant-Man, we’re still looking for any bit of info Wright, Marvel, or anybody else will reveal about the film. Today two tidbits have emerged. Clark Gregg reveals that he wants to recruit Ant-Man for S.H.I.E.L.D. and Paul Rudd’s pal Jud Apatow has said he’s seen the star in his superhero suit.

ant-manSpeaking with Zap2It, S.H.I.E.L.D. star Clark “Agent Coulson” Gregg says that he’s excited at the prospect of Paul Rudd joining the Marvel Universe. He also hopes that Rudd will stop by his show before long even though Ant-Man won’t even be finished for a year and a half:

What I love most about the movies from ‘Iron Man’ to ‘The Avengers’ is the sense of humor, and to have someone in the world who’s going to really slam the not taking himself too seriously component out of the park is perfect. I hope [Rudd] does a lot of films with them and he comes onto our show.
I love that idea. I love that idea. I think he’s amazing and, for me, what’s great about Marvel is the kind of outside the box casting that they’ve done, starting with Robert [Downey Jr.] who now seems so perfect, but I think was a little bit of a tough sell at the first moment. People who you don’t associate initially with superhero movies is what works so well for Ant-Man, who’s so smart and has an intellect.

While we’re not sure if Rudd will be playing Hank Pym or Scott Lang, both have had dealings with the organization. It does sound like both Pym and Lang will be in Wright’s movie, so it’s a tossup as to who Rudd is really playing. We’ll just have to wait and see.

MTV recently caught up with director, producer, and longtime Rudd collaborator Judd Apatow has seen his pal in his superhero costume. Apatow told the site “I’ve already seen [Rudd suited up] in our personal lives together, but I’m super excited for him. There’s nothing more fun than being allowed into that Marvel world and to see Paul kick ass. I’m ready. It’s about time. He’s always been a superhero of my life and worked, so it’s not unexpected.” So everyone wants a piece of Paul Rudd it seems. His costume has been completed, and unless it has been completely overhauled since the test footage was released, we have an idea of what it looks like. What do you think about Gregg and Apatow’s comments?
