Another One Bites the Dust As Storm’s Role Reportedly Downsized In DAYS OF FUTURE PAST
Earlier this year, fans were rather shocked to hear that the role of Rogue, played by Anna Paquin, in the upcoming X-Men sequel Days of Future Past had been cut from the film. It’s not unusual to see some editing like this in order to keep the focus on the main story, not to mention, this film version of Rogue has always been at the center of debate due to her lack of…everything. The interesting part about this, however, is that the character still got her own magazine cover from Empire shortly after this news broke and her role in the film was reported to have been really awesome, with her finally becoming the Rogue we all know and expect to see.
Well, X-Men fans, we may have some more depressing news for you, or exciting news, depending on who you are. The New York Daily News is reporting that Halle Berry’s Storm has also been cut, though they are saying she will have one small scene in the film.
Meanwhile, on the work front, a source who was on the set of “X Men: Days of Future Past,” tells us Berry, who plays Storm, was cut out of every scene but one in post-production.
Berry filmed many of her scenes while being pregnant with her second child and was showing a rather visible baby bump when she showed up for filming, so her scenes had to be re-written any way to accommodate for that, so we likely won’t see any scenes of her flying, twirling or doing Storm-like things at all. It could be, as with Rogue, that her scenes just didn’t help move the story along and could afford to be cut.
Halle Berry as Storm has long been one of the least favorite characters in this franchise, so some may not be bothered by this news. But I am going to play Devil’s advocate for just a moment. Halle Berry is an expensive actress to get and has previously fought with Fox over screen time in previous X-Men films. I can’t see her rolling over and letting this happen after she put up such a fight previously. Add to that the fact that she was featured rather prominently in the first trailer we saw for the film, but that could all come from the one scene she has left. We’ll just have to play the waiting game on this one, as I’m sure we’ll learn more as we get closer to the release of X-Men: Days of Future Past. One thing is for sure, if this news is accurate, we won’t have to hear any more lines like this:
