Day 21 of 31 in 31 brings us the 1979 classic “Alien

Directed by Ridley Scott and written by Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett, this film stars Sigourny Weaver as a member of the crew aboard the Nostromo, a space toeing vessel. The Nostormo comes in contact with what is thought to be an S.O.S signal from a nearby ship. The crew investigates only to come back with a little something extra they didn’t bargain for, an extra terrestrial. The creature gets loose in the Nostromo and has some deadly encounters with the crew.

Even though the title of this film is “Alien” and it does take place in space, make no mistake, this movie all all horror. The character design for the alien, done by tech-horror artist  H.R. Giger, is a very nice piece of what I can only describe as organic technology. I say this for it’s ability to blend in with the Nostromo’s surroundings. Also, this film is another prime example of an effective movie with no digital effects that stands the test of time. It’s a pure classic.
