Alan Moore Becomes The Man Simply Known As ‘The Original Writer’
A little earlier today we took a look at Marvel‘s January solicitations and pointed out the start of Revolutionary War. Another thing worth pointing out on its own is the solicitations for the first wave of Miracleman reprints. The publisher made waves on the web when they announced the news at this past weekend’s New York Comic Con. On top of that, the conclusion to Neil Gaiman‘s run on the book would finally see print. Before we get to the end though, we have to go back to the beginning. The first two issues have been solicited and they contain something pretty funny.
If you’re an Alan Moore fan, you know the eccentric scribe doesn’t want his name used to promote any reprints or new material based of any of his old works for Marvel or DC. There was a big legal battle over the rights of Miracleman between Neil Gaiman and Todd McFarlane, which had nothing to do with Moore, but it turns out Moore having written Miracleman and his reluctance to have his name used to make mainstream publishers a buck makes for the most interesting thing about the January solicits. As you can see below, the man once known as Alan Moore is now simply credited at The Original Writer. That’s one way to get around the problem.
