Adan Canto Joins Days of Future Past
So, how many is too many in regards to the number of mutants in one film? Bryan Singer and crew are just starting to film the latest installment in Fox’s X-Men franchise, Days of Future Past. The film will include an impressive number of characters, some old and some new, combining characters and actors from the first X-Men trilogy with those from the First Class. As it stands now, the cast includes Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Hugh Jackman, Shawn Ashmore, Daniel Cudmore, Ellen Page, Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Booboo Stewart, Nicholas Hoult, Omar Sy (hang on, I need to catch my breath)….Peter Dinklage and Bingbing Fan. WHEW! But with the expected time-traveling elements of the story, it’s unknown exactly how big these roles will be.
Tonight, as Bryan Singer often does, he took to Twitter to send out a pic of the goings on during the day-to-day grind of the production. However, this time, the pic happened to be of some the cast at a hockey game in Montreal, where they are filming. If you take a look at the image below, you’ll recognize most of the names on the back of the jerseys. But what bout that Canto guy? Well, according to his Twitter account, he’s the newest member f the X-Men cast. But, you have to dig pretty deep to see who he’ll be playing, but there is still no confirmation. Back on April 8th, when asked about his upcoming projects, he simply replied:
I might turn into a ball of fire if someone pisses me off.
At the time, it didn’t make much sense, but no that we see Singer’s pic, we can expect him to play a fiery mutant, possibly Sunspot. Canto is Mexican, so it’s not too far a stretch for him to play Bobby De Costa, aka, Sunspot, who is Brazilian. There is also the possibility of Sunfire, but being that he is of Japanese decent, that is less likely. Of course, Canto and Singer are keeping their secret, well, as secret, so we’ll have to wait and see as filming progresses if we get more info.
X-Men: Days of Future Past is set for a July 2014 release. While details are still scarce, we can expect to see the previously mentioned time travel, as well as (hopefully) the fan-favorite mutant hunting Sentinel robots. There is also a rumor that Apocalypse could make an appearance, as Singer has discussed a character that will be fully CGI, much like the giants in his past project Jack the Giant Slayer, which proved to be a rather colossal failure. Adan Canto can currently be seen in Fox’s The Following alongside X-Men alum Kevin Bacon.
