Avengers: Age of Ultron writer and director Joss Whedon really surprised the nerd world when he stated that the brother and sister team of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch would be joining the ranks of the The Avengers in the upcoming sequel. Of course, there’s also that issue of Bryan Singer announcing Evan Peters playing Quicksilver in the upcoming Days of Future Past, but that’s an issue for another article. Not long after these announcments, it was reported that Kick-Ass 2 star Aaron Taylor-Johnson was in talks to play the speedster in Marvel’s film and the actor just pretty much confirmed that it’s happening.

While chatting with Collider about his upcoming film Kick-Ass 2, the young actor tells them that he has indeed met with Whedon and the folks at Marvel to discuss the role of Quicksilver.

“I feel really flattered and honored that they came to me for that role.  I think he’s an interesting character and we’re just gonna keep going into that.  I sat down with Joss, I think he’s awesome, I sat down with the guys at Marvel and they’re also great; I think it’d be interesting.”

It shouldn’t be too big of a surprise to hear him confirm that he is involved. When most actors are cast in “superhero” roles, they get so wrapped in the powers and abilities of that character, they actually forgot about they other part of the role: the character. Taylor-Johnson talks about this with MTV (via CBM) and how he wants to put focus on both aspects of the character.

quicksilver1“The thing to talk think about is he’s an abandoned child, him and his sister are abandoned…they’r in Eastern Europe. There’s more character aspect that I’m interested in that the power aspect. And if that’s something that you can make work, then there’s always…you gotta have something that you can releate to. So when it comes to that, then it’s enjoyable. So I don’t really care what it is you know. “

We’ve heard in the past from other actors how much fun it is to work with a person like Joss Whedon, mainly because he’s not only a director and writer, but he’s also a fan of the comics and that runs over into his projects. Taylor-Johnson alos talked about meeting with Whedon and had nothing but good to say bout his work on Avengers.

“Oh man. [Joss Wedon] is awesome! He’s a real dude and I love what he did with the first Avengers. He had a real tough task to deal with and I think he put up brilliantly.”

As it stans now, we don’t really know how Quicksilver and his sister Scarlet Witch, who has yet to be cast, will fit into the overall story. When has stated in the past that the duo will not be something the Avengers should take lightly and that they will be a difficult problem. Both of them have very unique powers and characteristics, so it will certainly be interesting to see how they fit in with the other players.

Age of Ultron should start filming next year and will see Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner reprise their roles. It’s set for a 2015 release. You can check out the full interview from MTV below!
