75th Anniversary SUPERMAN Short Lands Online
When the Man Of Steel blu-ray was announced, one of things that was listed on the special features was an animated a short. It had people’s curiously, but it wasn’t until they announced what the short was going to be and who was going to be involved did it catch people’s attention.
DC Animation legend Bruce Timm along with Man Of Steel director Zack Snyder teamed up for a two minutes short that shows off the history of Superman’s progression. “The idea was to start with Siegel and Shuster and end with Henry Cavill, stopping at all the high points and iconic moments in between,” Timm told EW. “It was Zack Snyder’s idea. We had approached him about maybe doing a short for the DC Nation program on Cartoon Network. He said, ‘I’ll think about it,’ and then he had this idea to do basically the entire history of Superman in, like, a minute. We said, ‘Okay … whoooo.’” After they started working on the project, the quickly realized it couldn’t be done in a minute so the bumped it up to two minutes.
Timm knows that not all of everyone’s favorite moments can be included, saying there has been extensive meetings on what would and would not be featured. In the end they ended up with something that just works, and shows off, quite amazingly, Superman’s history throughout the years. “Zack wanted to get the way Superman impacted the world and pop culture, even outside of comics,” explained Timm. Mission accomplished.
