31 in 31 V.2 Day 5

Hey hey everybody! Today’s 31 in 31 brings us the 2010 film, Troll Hunter!

This is a “found footage” film about a group of students in Norway (yes, the film is in Norwegian) who are investigating/docukenting the deaths of bears that seems to be on the rise in local Norwegian forests. The crew meets up with an odd hunter , Hans, in order to hopefully find an explanation on these bear deaths. Following Hans into a forest the crew learns that Hans isn’t hunting anything ordinary, but as the title of the film suggests, he’s hunting trolls. Of course the students don’t believe him at first, but shortly get a rude awakening and find out that Hans is telling the truth and it’s roots go deeper than just a hunter knowing about them. The film does a really good job of incorporating norse folklore/Mythology (sorry guys, no Thor, Loki, or Odin in this one) to make a convincing argument of their existence and the idiosyncrasies of the trolls.

If you don’t mind subtitles, then this is a well thought out film. However, the dubbed english track isn’t very good.

Happy Hauntings!
