A 15 Year Old George R.R. Martin Once Trolled Stan Lee And Jack Kirby And It Was Glorious
There’s a bit of reputation that Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin carries with him and it revolves around his knack for killing off popular characters. What it boils down to is that he will kill off every character you’ve ever loved. Not only that, but he seems to do it with a smile on his face. Not sure if really does live of the tears of fans, but he hasn’t done much to dispel that rumor. Anyway, the uber-talented author, it turns out, has been a fan of comics for a while, and after reading Fantastic Four #17, Martin felt inclined to share his feelings with Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the creators of the famed comic characters. The result is either the greatest bit of satire/back-handed compliment I’ve ever seen or an over-generous compliment. I honestly can’t decide.
The best part about this letter is that Martin was 15 years old when he wrote it and his talent for writing is fairly evident even at that age. Regardless of what this letter is, it’s a great read, especially if you’re a fan of Martin as it is purely his style.
